Morpeth Chapel Jazz is a joint venture of the three churches of Morpeth.
Until the 1980s, Morpeth was a rundown village in fear of demolition. Then it was slowly rejuvenated as a destination and what was left of its charming buildings rescued from the bulldozer. A few local businesses joined together to establish a small jazz festival in the bicentenary year of 1988. The jazz festival soon acquired a life of its own and by 2000 had developed into a major event.
In 2009 Jazz returned to Morpeth when the three churches got together to revive the Morpeth Jazz Festival as ChapelJazz. The aim of ChapelJazz is to present traditional jazz in a welcoming environment to jazz lovers and their families and provide an enjoyable community experience.
