Twinstar Guesthouse and Observatory is a unique motel-style B&B with an in-house astronomical observatory. Guests are offered a free undercover parking and a one-hour free Wi-Fi internet access. A complimentary guided "Night Sky Tour" is conducted from a private 4.5 metre fibre-glass observatory every night from 20:30 (weather permitting). The tour introduces visitors to star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, planets and the moon under dark rural skies with a large 46cm reflecting telescope. The tour takes only up to six people, allowing a plenty of viewing time for each person. The Guesthouse has three guest rooms with its own entrance off the veranda. Half way between Glen Aplin and Ballandean, this colonial style farm house is situated on 80 acres. Rovers Rest Guest House has two luxury queen beds and two king size single beds and one sofa bed. This superb house has two bathrooms, separate dining room lounge with large combustion fire place and sweeping verandahs with great views of the surrounding country side. Walk to wineries only a few hundred metres down the road or drive to more than 15 wineries within ten minutes. Rovers Rest Guest House is situated in the middle of the Queensland Wine District. Each unit has its own bathroom, kitchen, television, stereo, fridge, microwave, jug, toaster, sink, table and chairs for four. There are two units with one queen bed and a sofa bed and two units with two king size single beds and a sofa bed. There is a communal room. It has a gas stove and barbecue, two couches, large eight seater dining table, television, stainless steel benches and wood fire place. There is also a 34 metre under cover verandah.

They have two Yurts, Zuny and Namar Yurts. The Yurts have eight sides and are based on the Mongolian Design. Zuny is the Mongolian word for Summer, Namar is the Mongolian word for Autumn. They are in Ballandean which is a two to three hour drive south from Brisbane. They both sleep up to four people. Zuny Yurt has a King split size beds they can be changed to four single beds if required. Namer Yurt has one double bed and a sofa bed in the lounge room. They are fully self contained with a kitchenette, separate bedroom, log fire, air-conditioning, flat screen television in the lounge room and bedroom. All linen, towels and firewood is supplied. They are close to about 15 local award winning wineries of which four are James Haliday five star wineries. All wine tours will pick up from the Yurts. Giraween National Park is a 10 minute drive away, Sundown National Park is a four wheel drive only park, Storm King Dam is for fishing and boating. Ballandean is a 10 minute drive from Stanthorpe. Symphony Hill Wines is a family-owned boutique winery located in the cool climate Ballandean highlands of Queensland's Granite Belt. They have been rated 5 stars by James Halliday for the last three years. And 58 different wines have been rated 4.5 stars or more for last eight years. In his latest 2015 Wine Companion, James Halliday has rated six of their wines 5 stars with their flagship Reserve Shiraz scoring an amazing 96 points. This score is just one point behind Penfolds Grange. Their flagship red is their 5 star Reserve Shiraz which has won top gold medals at both Sydney and Melbourne Royal Wine Shows, and has been nominated for two trophies at 2011 Royal Melbourne for Best Single Vineyard Wine and Best Shiraz trophies. Vignerons Brad and Cheryl Hutchings work closely throughout the wine-making process with renowned winemaker Mike Hayes, who shares their belief that the best wines are made in the vineyard and not the winery. The Underground Creek track in Girraween National Park begins at a car park four kilometres east of the visitor information centre. Branch off the Dr Roberts Waterhole track and pass through swamp communities, woodland and shrubland to where Bald Rock Creek disappears beneath boulders that fell from an overhanging cliff face. Water-sculpted granite rocks, hidden rock pools, wildflowers and varied birdlife are a feature of this track....

Castle Rock camping area is more suitable for caravans and motorhomes. Bush-camping in remote sections of Girraween National Park is also permitted (restrictions apply). As sites are not identified by signs or markers, campers need good navigation skills and to practice minimal impact behaviour when using these areas. Camping permits are required and fees apply. Ballandean

Ballandean is renowned for its picturesque setting and is home to the Granite Belt's largest number of award winning wine makers. It is in this area, just to the south of Stanthorpe, that Queensland's first commercially grown table grapes were harvested. Grapes have been grown here since the 1870s, thanks predominantly to the arrival of Italian settlers. The first legally planted wine grapes are said to have been grown by the Puglisi family of Ballandean. The family vineyard, Ballandean Estate, is the venue for "Opera in the Vineyard", each May. Don't miss Ballandean's little bit of Egypt - make sure you drive past the famous hand-made pyramid. The amazing Girraween National Park and rugged Sundown National Park are also only a short drive away....

The Junction Track

The Junction track is an easy walk downstream from the Bald Rock Creek day-use area along the northern bank of Bald Rock Creek to its junction with Ramsay Creek. In dry seasons, these creeks may not run. Enjoy colourful track-side wildflowers in spring - this track is a must for wildflower lovers. Flowering shrubs fringing the creek provide nectar for honeyeaters and parrots. Take the time to look in rock pools and to watch superb wrens, red-browed firetails and thornbills moving through creek bank thickets seeking insects. This track can also be accessed from the Bald Rock Creek camping area. Return distance: 3.7 kilometres return. Time: 1.5-2 hours....
