Brisbane City Botanic Gardens is a living museum of plant collections, displaying early heritage specimens through to present day exotic and native plantings. It is considered to be one of the most important non-indigenous cultural landscapes in Queensland and is recognised for its natural and historic values. In addition to the plant collections, there are a number of significant heritage features.

Walk through the beautiful Brisbane City Botanic Gardens accompanied by a Brisbane Botanic Gardens Volunteer Guide. Tours are offered twice daily, (except Sundays, public holidays and mid-December to mid-January). Walks last approximately one hour. A visit to Queensland Parliament allows you to experience the grandeur of Queensland\'s first and foremost public building. Built in 1868, the beautifully restored interior showcases Queensland\'s history, as shaped by the governments and laws that have been made in the Parliament.

Today the building is still home to Australia\'s only unicameral State Parliament. Visitors can enjoy tours conducted by Parliamentary Attendants, who provide insights into the buildings\' architecture, history and operation of Parliament.

City Hall is one of Queensland's most significant heritage and cultural icons.

Since its opening in 1930, City Hall has been a symbol of civic pride and over the years it has become one of Brisbane's greatest icons and community meeting places. The building has played an important role in the lives of our local community in times of war, peace, celebration and refuge and has rightly earned the title of the 'People's Place'.

City Hall is home to Brisbane’s civic, community, artistic and social life and reopened in April 2013 after three years of extensive restoration and upgrades.

The MacArthur Museum Brisbane introduces visitors to a critical time in Brisbane’s history – the dark days of World War Two.

Visit the office where MacArthur planned the Allied campaigns in the South-West Pacific and his famous, ‘I shall return’ campaign for the recapture of the Philippines.

Experience Brisbane during the dark years of 1942 to 1944 – when streets were lined with air-raid shelters, and warships and submarines crowded the banks of the Brisbane River.

Explore a time of censorship, rationing and blackouts, when adults and children carried ID cards, and housewives queued for food supplies.

The Queensland Police Museum offers visitors the opportunity to enter the world of policing. Displays depict the history of the Queensland Police Service from 1864 to present day, giving an insight into different police sections. Visitors can test their detective skills by using clues from the simulated murder scene to solve a crime.

Other displays illustrate infamous Brisbane crimes, real murder cases, a Shrine of Honour and police transport.

QUT Art Museum has a nationally significant collection focused on contemporary Australian art. The six galleries provide an engaging space for exhibitions. It is situated within QUT Gardens Cultural Precinct, Brisbane City.

As you walk through the streets of Brisbane this magnificent 19th century building is sure to catch your attention. Towering above the rest, Naldham House with its archetypical architecture and imposing structure is a legacy of Australia's Colonial past. Constructed in the late 1870's, this structure has withstood the test of time and still makes its presence felt in the lanes of Brisbane. First designed by the Sydney architects Al & G McCreedy as the office of Australian United Steamship Navigation Company in 1889, this structure has been renovated a few times ever since. Originally called the AUSN Building, it later came to be known as the Naldham house after being taken over by McDonald Hamilton.

St John's Cathedral is a heritage site with cultural splendour unrivalled in Brisbane. With gothic-revival architecture that begun 100 years ago (and is still being built), the Cathedral features wood-carvings, stained-glass, 350 million year old limestone and the only fully stone-vaulted ceiling in Australia. The Cathedral's font contains pillars of fossiliferous limestone 350 million years old from Frosterley, United Kingdom, in which skeletons of Coral polyps and bi-valve shells are clearly visible. Every window in the cathedral is of significance: from the large early twentieth century Wheel window to the collection of William Bustard's work, and then the later vibrant windows of David Saunders. The Millennium Window, designed by Scott Maxwell and made by Warwick Blair, was installed in 2001. The Cathedral is set in a precinct of heritage buildings.

The City Botanic Gardens is the city's oldest park, originally planted by convicts in 1825 with food crops to feed the prison colony. These gardens include ancient trees, rainforest glades and exotic species. They run the full length of Alice Street, bordered by Parliament House on the one side and the Brisbane River's northern banks on the other. They provide a lush green haven for city workers and visitors. There are free guided walks available from Monday to Saturdays from approximately 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. (excluding public holidays). The walks are at a gentle pace, last approximately one hour and are led by experienced, friendly Volunteer Guides. Meet at the Rotunda near the Alice Street Main Entrance. Additionally, the Gardens hosts boxing and fitness circuits, weight loss challenges, tai chi, pilates and more. Attractions at the gardens include Bamboo Grove, Weeping Fig Avenue, Mangrove Boardwalk and ornamental ponds. Special events are held at the River stage. The City Botanic Gardens also offer 10 outdoor designated booking areas that may be reserved for either a wedding ceremony or corporate function. The areas range from scenic lilly ponds, intimate small areas or large open grassed areas.

The Victoria Barracks Museum collection includes weapons which saw service in Australian, Allied and enemy forces between 1899 and 1972. Medals on display include Boer War, First World War and Second World War campaign and gallantry awards. A comprehensive display of replica medals enables easy identification of medals issued to Australian servicemen and women from approximately 1860 to 1980. A range of research publications is also held by the Museum. The museum is located close to the heart of Brisbane in Petrie Terrace.

Designed by architect, George David Payne, St Andrew's is an excellent example of Romanesque-Byzantine architecture. Features include magnificent stained glass windows by Brisbane artist William Bustard and Melbourne firm, Brooks Robinson. The Peace Chapel contains World War honour boards and a communion set used at Gallipoli. The arched tiered chancel, pipe organ, choir and fine ecclesiastical furniture are impressive. This Heritage Listed Church is open during the week to the public between 11:00am and 2:00pm. Guided tours for groups are also available by appointment.

Elizabeth Street has long been the place to find Brisbane's up-and-coming fashion designers with its shining star Elizabeth Arcade. Home to a great range of boutiques each offering diverse fashion options. Must-shops at the arcade are Garnsis, Little Lace and Violent Green. Don't miss out on Xile and Highway 7, just located outside on Elizabeth Street. Xile is a mecca for international fashion, stocking such designers as Dolce & Gabbana and Armani. For something with a street and punk rock edge head to Highway 7. When you've finished shopping, the arcade is the perfect place for a bite to eat thanks for the numerous Asian cafes on offer.

Customs House, one of Brisbane's heritage icons, is located on the river in the Central Business District. The beautifully restored building is operated by The University of Queensland as a cultural, educational and heritage facility. Behind the grand Corinthian columns you will find exquisite boardrooms, a stunning ballroom, a licensed restaurant and an information centre. Customs House is open to the public for viewing. Visitors are able to stroll through the building and capture its historic flavour while a display of Customs Service memorabilia from those bygone years stirs the imagination. A permanent display of the Stuartholme-Behan collection of Australian Art is located in the building. The licensed restaurant is located on the river level in what was once part of the Queen's warehouse. Seating is provided inside in heritage surroundings as well as outside overlooking the river. Walk to Customs House down Queen Street or along the river boardwalk. Customs House is readily accessible by CityCat with bus and train stations in the near vicinity.

Old Government House is recognised as one of Queensland's most important heritage sites. The building recently underwent a AUD15 million restoration and is now open to the public as a House museum. Visit the house (admission is free) to get an insight into colonial life in the early days of Queensland. Old Government House is also home to the William Robinson Gallery. Located on the first level the Gallery and study centre honours the life and work of this distinguished Queensland artist. Tours of Old Government House and the William Robinson Gallery are run regularly.

Albert Street Uniting Church has been a Spiritual Home in Brisbane City for over 160 years. The church is in the decorative Gothic style of architecture to harmonise the style with the requirements of a tropical climate. The most prominent feature of the external design is the spire on the Albert and Ann Streets corner. This rises to a height of 42 metres from the street. The spire continues upward in a graceful and unbroken line, capped by a handsome wrought-iron finial. The Church is open Monday to Friday, 10.00am to 2.00pm for prayer and reflection, and is also a popular venue for local and international weddings.
