Australia Day Award ceremonies will be held in six towns across the Strathbogie Shire. All members of the public are most welcome to attend, with the Avenel Australia Day Award Ceremony to be held at Jubilee Park. The official program will commence at 9:30am with presentations of Australia Day Awards, address from Australia Day Ambassador, flag raising and Citizenship Ceremony. Light refreshments will be provided by the members of the Avenel Bowling Club at the conclusion of the ceremony. Australia Day Award ceremonies will also be held in Euroa, Longwood, Nagambie, Strathbogie and Violet Town....

Steeped in history, visit the many graves scattered around the Avenel Cemetery. Of important note here is the grave of John 'Red' Kelly, the father of the infamous Ned Kelly. 'Red' was laid to rest at the age of 45 on the 28 December 1866. He died in the Kilmore Gaol after his health was ruined due to alcohol abuse....
