The Queensland Heritage Park complex in Biloela, Central Queensland, represents a celebration of our nation's glorious past and the pioneering spirit of Australians. Through a remarkable range of exhibits the Queensland Heritage Park provides and insight into the past for present and future generations. The restored vintage church and railway station buildings are a testament to early pioneers and families who settled in the Callide and Dawson Valleys. The walls of these buildings are lined with historical photographs and associated memorabilia from the families who shaped the district's early days. Each photo is like a window back in time. The Callide Dawson Machinery Preservation Club grounds at the rear of the complex compliment the many exhibits found inside the main display area, housed in the "Silo" structure that was originally built to showcase Australia's rich primary industries at the World Exhibition held in Brisbane in 1988. Take the time to explore, discover and relive the past as you browse through the machinery sheds and the large array of vintage agricultural machinery. Marvel at the workmanship of these beautifully crafted machines which have been collected, preserved and placed on display for the enjoyment of the travelling public....

Kroombit Tops offers visitors the chance to get back to nature and camp without facilities, away from phones and technology, in small camping areas with fire-rings for a traditional bush cooking experience. Take a bushwalk and explore forests on four-wheel-drive roads. Open forests dominated by Sydney blue gum, pink bloodwood and rough-barked apple trees flourish on the park's eastern slopes. In the wetter south-eastern sandstone country, blackbutt forests dominate, and subtropical rainforests grow around some of the creeks. Many birds and animals in Kroombit Tops National Park are at the northern or southern limit of their distribution and it is the only known home to the endangered Kroombit tinkerfrog. See the remains of a WWII Liberator bomber that crashed at Kroombit Tops in 1945 and remained hidden in the forest until it was discovered nearly 50 years later....

Lake Callide

Lake Callide is located 12 kilometres from Biloela via sealed road and approximately 90 kilometres south-west of Gladstone via the Dawson Highway. While compact, the lake provides visitors with rewarding fishing - especially for golden perch (yellowbelly) and has in recent times been well stocked with barramundi. Red-claw is abundant and it's well worth placing (tagged) traps for a catch of the tasty crayfish. A variety of other freshwater species are available to you and anglers report good success from bank fishing though the boat ramps make this an ideal spot for to launch a boat and follow the fish with a sounder. The lake also attracts a wide variety of birdlife and the local region includes some spectacular scenery at nearby Kroombit Tops National Park. It is a comfortable drive from the major cities of Gladstone, Rockhampton and popular costal areas....

Some travel the world to visit the Giant's Causeway in Ireland, but the Gladstone region's answer to the hexagonal volcanic columns can be found right here at Mount Scoria. This is a place of great cultural significance to the Gangulu people and a cultural trail with accompanying information will enlighten you on the spiritual sanctity of the area. This striking mountain rises above plains of grazing land, and features basalt columns, rocky scree slopes, open woodlands, vine thickets and diverse bird life and the park is a great place to set up and have a picnic amongst the bottle trees, Moreton Bay ash, forest red gums, silver-leaved ironbarks featured in the conservation park. It takes just 30 minutes to experience this amazing landmark which has supported life and culture for millions of years before today....

Kroombit Tops National Park - a spectacular hinterland experience that showcases the regions true beauty. 800 metre high sandstone cliffs, waterfalls, inspiring landscapes, sweeping gorges, peaceful creeks and the only known home of the Kroombit Tinkerfrog, a critically endangered species. Just 85 kilometres from Gladstone, Kroombit Tops National Park is a 4WD enthusiasts dream, with a number of touring routes available to explore the varying features of the hinterland. Take a day trip, or camp overnight for a more leisurely journey (fees apply). The rugged terrain of the Kroombit Plateau is the resting place of a World War II B-24D Liberator bomber which crashed on a rainy night in 1945, and all on board lost their lives. Drive the four wheel drive scenic loop and walk 700 metres (return) to the plane's crash site....
