Held on a brand new asphalt track provided by the South Burnett Regional Council and run from a safety perspective under the banner of C.A.M.S. the committee is looking to build on the accolades received from competitors last year as one of the best events of its type they have attended. For 2017, following the acquisition of more concrete barriers, spectator viewing areas will be extended and augmented by grandstand seating at a number of interesting locations. Over time, the Wondai Street Sprint is expected to become a major event on the sporting calendar in South East Queensland....

Wondai Regional Art Gallery

40 Haly Street, Wondai QLD 4606
Dubbed 'the art heart of the South Burnett', the Wondai Gallery is sure to surprise and impress. Prominently situated on the roundabout, behind the eye-catching dingo sculptures and rock pool, the building now housing the gallery was the original Stationmaster's residence, dating back to the early 1900s. It has been lowered and tastefully renovated, while retaining its old world charm, including the original timber flooring. A new Exhibition opens the first Friday of the month (except January), with artists attracted from throughout the State. A light supper is served and a local cellar door offers wine tasting. Usually, the exhibiting artists are on hand to discuss their works. As well, a 'Kids Korner' features art work from local schools. Works of pottery, silversmithing, ceramics and other arts and crafts are also displayed for sale. The recent addition of a workroom has allowed for the scheduling of children's art classes and various workshops for adults....

Wondai Heritage Museum

80 Mackenzie Street, Wondai QLD 4606
Extending over 1,600 square metres, and divided into several differently themed environments, the Wondai Heritage Museum offers an uncluttered insight into the development, and the people, of the Wondai town and district spanning 120 years. Military memorabilia and social development is the theme of the Formal Museum, which features, in particular. the bugle captured by local resident Jim Houston and played by him at the 1945 Japanese surrender at Morati. The relocated 1910 Wondai Hospital operating theatre houses implements and history of a medical nature, and makes up the Hospital Complex. On a larger scale, the Machinery Shed houses many meticulously restored items, from sulkies and threshers to the extensive ?Vince Miller? collection of timber tools, and that grand old octogenarian the ?Dennis Fire Engine?. The 1930?s Slab Barn, complete with authentic shingle roof, is a fine example of pioneer construction, and now houses tools used by blacksmiths, cobblers, shearers and horsemen. For so long the hub of Wondai, the 1920?S Oddfellows Hall houses a display of intricate lodge regalia, but principally featuring theatrically-styled settings depicting, schoolroom, laundry, kitchen, bedroom, cinematic and printing room in a sauntering walk back through time. And did they mention it's fun! Yes it is!...
