Lady Musgrave Island on the Great Barrier Reef is accessible from either Bundaberg or the Town of 1770. This 44 acre coral cay sits in a lagoon of approximately 3,000 acres with 14 world class dive sites: Manta Ray and Entrance Bombies, Napoleon's Wall and The Drop-off to name a few. Snorkel the shallows or dive coral gardens on the northern side and the extensive drop-off on the southern side. Take a step back in time and admire the architecture from a different time at the former Commercial bank of Sydney building. This majestic building was completed in 1891 and is important in demonstrating the evolution of Bundaberg as a regional centre, as well as the evolution of the early competitive banking facilities in rural Queensland. Prior to 1872 there were no banking facilities in Bundaberg. There was a Customs House established on the banks of the Burnett River but the duties had to be paid in Maryborough. In April 1872 a rep from the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney arrived in Bundaberg to assess the viability of a bank in the town. He left town a day later promising to establish a branch in Bundaberg in the following months. The day after the CBC rep departed a rep from the Bank of NSW rode into Bundaberg from Maryborough to announce the branch was open for business. The Commercial Banking Company of Sydney opened in June 1872 but was forced to close their doors in October 1873 due to the Bank of NSW securing most of the banking business in town....

Mon Repos Conservation Park, a quiet coastal oasis near Bundaberg, is special! The beach supports the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland and has the most significant loggerhead turtle nesting population in the South Pacific region. Bundy Food Tours gives you a behind the scenes tour on farms, into traditional butcher shops and seafood specialists in the Bundaberg region. These small guided food tours offer an extraordinary opportunity for you to meet large and small food producers and hear their family farming stories from second to fourth generation. You will learn about the diversity of produce grown in the area from sweet potatoes to dragon fruit and strawberries to macadamia nuts, sometimes all on the same family farm. The journey from Bundaberg to Yeppoon, north east of Rockhampton, includes a number of different aspects of Queenslanders' war service, including commemorating war nurses at one of the Bundaberg Memorials, a visit to the museum of an early aviation hero and WWI veteran Bert Hinkler, a memorial which doubled as a union rallying point in the mining town of Mount Morgan and an avenue of trees representing those lost in WWI on the beachside at Yeppoon....

Situated off the road to Bargara is the low-lying volcanic remnant known as "The Hummock" which, although only 96 metres above sea-level, offers visitors good views over the whole area. The ocean is visible to the east while, to the west, the sugar fields can be seen encircling the city with the smoke stacks of the Bundaberg Distillery and Mill on the horizon. Watch the moon rise over the ocean as the sun sets over the land. The Hummock holds an important place in local indigenous history. The Taribelang Aboriginal people were the first humans to inhabit this area. Their 'burning mountain' is the 'Sloping Hummock" of today. There is a large Aboriginal art mural at the site which depicts the violent story of Paddys Island at the time of European settlement. Paddy's Island can still be seen from the Hummock lookout today....
