Tarndie is an historic working sheep farm with accommodation and a farm-gate Woolshop set amongst one of Victoria's oldest surviving homesteads. The Dennis family have been growing wool at Tarndie (which is short for Tarndwarncoort) since 1840 and offers visitors a unique experience that blends farming, craft, heritage and modern hospitality. Tarndie is the birthplace of Australia's first breed of sheep. Polwarth wool is soft, long and perfect for woolcraft. The Woolshop at Tarndie stocks tops and yarn produced entirely by the 1200 naturally coloured sheep in the paddocks. A regular calendar of woolcraft workshops keeps makers up to date with new skills. School holiday workshops for kids are also a highlight. The Woolshop is open Saturday and Sunday 10:00am to 4:00pm. The Courtyard Kiosk serves a great morning and afternoon tea with proper coffee and country fare. Live life on the land to gain a full experience of Australia with Tarndie's accommodation. Choose between two unique properties, The Farmers Cottage or The Homestead. The Homestead is one of Victoria's oldest surviving homesteads, containing eight bedrooms, five lounge / dining rooms, including a dedicated craft room. There are two suites each named after early western district explorers, Hesse and Gellibrand who lost their way and disappeared in the district in 1837. The Gellibrand suite features two separate room, a sitting room separate bedroom with adjoining ensuite including a bath and large shower access.
