Trainworks is located in Thirlmere, just over an hour from Sydney. It is the home of Australia's newest and biggest rail experience. Trainworks has the most complete overview of railway heritage to be found in Australia. There are over 40 locomotives and 80 carriages on display, dating from 1865, plus a comprehensive exhibition of railway items and memorabilia, a signals display, an authentic fettler's shed, and a heritage-listed 1880s railway station. Steam train rides from Thirlmere to Buxton on every Sunday between March and November. Langdale Farm is a family owned and run olive, sheep and cattle farm only one hour from Sydney. Enjoy the country hospitality, stroll amongst the olive trees, rose garden, pat and feed the pet sheep and enjoy morning or afternoon tea made using products from the farm. Mermaids Pools

Mermaids Pools has limited signage, and no mobile phone range. Please take water and food, and wear suitable footwear. Mermaids Pools is a short walk along Bargo River beginning at Rockford Road Bridge. Take Rockford Road from Tahmoor, cross Rockford Bridge, right on Charles Point Road to the car park. Walk under the bridge, following the track. After reaching a flat rock the track splits in two. One track (The Naked Way) takes walkers along a ridge on an easy walk. The other track follows Bargo River (The Potholes Track) and involves some rock hopping. The tracks meet up on the Matilda Track, which leads to a track down to The See Through Pool, or continue to the Mermaids Pool and Lookout Area. The path is not suitable for young children or the elderly, due to steep cliffs as well as water hazards. 1.5 hours return walk; Grade Four walk....

Cedar Creek Orchard

Cedar Creek Orchard is a third generation family run orchard. The Silm family first planted apples in 1941 on this beautiful 100 acre property. Shed sales of peaches and nectarines from mid November to January. Apples are available from February through until June. Persimmons are on from April until June. Quality Apple and Apple and Blackcurrant juices are made on site. Offering guided group tours by arrangement (with cost) which includes an orchard tour, fruit and juice tastings and watch an apple crush to produce the famous Black Label juices. Orchard tours are approximately one and half hours duration with the kids enjoying a tractor ride around the property. Cedar Creek Orchard is open to the public from November through until June. Due to the recent storm and water damage The Wollondilly Visitor Information Centre is temporarily located in the foyer area of the Wollondilly Shire Council building at 62 - 64 Menangle Rd, Picton. The centre is open Monday to Friday only with operating hours 8am - 4pm The 2016 Wollondilly Visitor Guide is now available; call in for a copy or phone the number provided for a copy to be posted to you. The Wollondilly Visitor Information Centre can provide maps, information on attractions, free activities such as history walks and bushwalks, entry prices to venues so you can plan your budget, and vital details such as opening hours. They are an agent for NSW Fisheries and they are also an agent to sell NPWS Park Passes. Remember Visitor Information Centres are not just for tourists, they are also here to assist locals with their needs and offer local advice to new residents in the area....

Picton Railway Viaduct

Viewed from the surrounding parkland, the Railway Viaduct over Stonequarry Creek is a picturesque site located at the end of Webster Street, Picton, which also has some historic old houses. It was built of sandstone between 1863 and 1867 at a time when John Whitton was responsible for railway construction in New South Wales. This excellent example of railway viaduct design is 84 metres long and has five arches, the highest measuring 30 metres. Close to Picton railway station, it was built for two lines of track and although it is not the first railway viaduct built in the state, it is considered unique because it is the oldest still in use today....

Thirlmere Festival of Steam

Since 1989, the annual Festival of Steam at Thirlmere has grown to become one of Australia's premier steam events. It's a community celebration of steam and nostalgia where locomotives of all kinds travel from afar, awakening the quaint village of Thirlmere with the enchanting echo of a steam whistle. Throughout the village, there's all the fun of a country fair to be had with great markets and music rides (Sunday only). Saturday is the day for train enthusiasts with steam displays at Trainworks and great photo opportunities with the special steam trains that will be there both days. Sunday the village of Thirlmere is closed off to traffic (designated parking areas) with market stalls, amusement rides, steam displays, train rides and parade at 1pm. The Festival of Steam is a unique and enjoyable event for the whole family!...
