The Nepean District Historical Society currently operates from the old Arms of Australia Inn which has been equipped as a museum of local history for the Nepean District. The museum contains thousands of photos and artefacts that were either used or manufactured in the local area and these are on display for people to see. Along with glass displays there are also a number of hands on interactive displays, including old gramophones, a pedal powered organ, old sewing machines, old adding machines, a 1920s telephone switchboard and hand cranked telephones. As well, there is agricultural equipment including the old grindstone and hand washing mangles, wood stoves, pre-electric refrigerators and blacksmiths forges and equipment. They can provide morning or afternoon teas, as well as full Devonshire teas for an additional cost if you so desire. Lantern Tours of the museum are available by appointment.

Sake is Japan's traditional alcoholic beverage made from rice. It has played an honoured role in Japanese tradition for at least 16 centuries. The Sun Masamune Sake Brewery is based in Penrith and visitors can learn about this ancient tradition and view the production from a special observation room, then taste and purchase sake. Sake is one of the few beverages that displays all five basic flavour groups that human beings can detect. These flavours are sweetness, sourness, pungency, bitterness and astringency. After eight years of planning, product development and investment negotiation, Sun Masamune Sake Brewery opened its Penrith brewery, in April 1996. The brewery produces sake for the Australian market and for export to South-East Asia and to the United States. About 90 per cent of the sake produced at Penrith is shipped to Japan. The remainder is bottled in Australia for local consumption and for the export markets.

Over the past five years Penrith City Council has created almost eight kilometres of walking track along the Nepean River. Known as the "Great River Walk", it features spectacular views of the beautiful river set against the backdrop of the Blue Mountains. The walk features resting points and lookouts where you can see bird and other wildlife in a natural setting. There are even places to enjoy a coffee and something to eat. Most of the track is part of a six kilometre loop that follows the riverbank on both the Penrith and Emu Plains sides of the river. The walk is accessible from both Penrith and Emu Plains Railway Stations. There is a grand vision to develop The "Great River Walk" to link the river's headwaters at Lake Bathurst near Goulburn with the mouth of the river at Broken Bay, a distance of 570 kilometres.
