Discover beauty, mystery and history along the 54 kilometre Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk linking the species-rich Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area of Lamington and Springbrook plateaus via the scenic Numinbah Valley. This World Heritage Area protects the most extensive areas of subtropical rainforest in the world, large areas of warm temperate rainforest and nearly all of Australia's remaining Antarctic beech cool temperate rainforest. Walk through the ancient volcanic landscape of the Tweed Volcano, which is still being eroded by rushing streams and plummeting waterfalls, and through lush rainforest with relicts of Gondwana flora and fauna. Allow three days to complete this Great Walk. It is recommended that you walk west to east, commencing the walk from Lamington National Park—Green Mountains section (O’Reilly) and ending at The Settlement camping area in Springbrook National Park. Warm subtropical rainforest, tall open eucalypt forest and picturesque waterfalls in secluded areas of the Blackall Range feature on this 58 kilometre, four day Great Walk, with bush camp sites along the route. You'll enjoy walking past waterfalls, peering into gorges and resting near rock pools. There are some stunning views and wonderful lookouts along the way. Notice the plant communities around you and how they change from warm subtropical rainforest to tall open eucalypt forest; all protected in three beautiful national parks—Kondalilla, Mapleton Falls and Mapleton. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk's many access points offer different walking options. You can do the 58 kilometre long-distance walking staying overnight in the three remote, walkers' camps; or tackle a full-day walk staying in holiday house accommodation nearby, or take some shorter half-day walks within the Great Walk route. If you plan to do the full walk, the three, small, remote walkers' camps along the Great Walk track will give you a fantastic camping-under-the-stars experience. The Cooloola Great Walk traverses the Cooloola Recreation Area, Great Sandy National Park, and showcases the very best of Cooloola's outstanding natural attractions. Immerse yourself in nature for five days as you hike this remote 102 kilometre trail through Cooloola’s rainforest, coastal woodland and heath-clad plains. Linking Noosa North Shore with Rainbow Beach, the Great Walk will take you over the eastern high dunes of the Cooloola sandmass, between the pristine upper Noosa River and the coast. Climb over vast sandblows, discover perched lakes and long sandy beaches and be rewarded with sweeping views of the Cooloola coastline. Along the way, glimpse snakes, skinks, lizards, emus and echidnas, and admire the views from many natural lookouts. Relax at night in the four walkers’ camps—Brahminy, Dutgee, Litoria and Kauri—where it’s only you and the wildlife. Camping permits are required in advance. Ensure you carry a topographic map and have experience in navigation and remote bushwalking before you attempt this challenging walk.
