Westside Track, Maiala

Brisbane Forest Park, The Gap QLD 4061

This delightful walk takes you through some of the best rainforest in Brisbane Forest Park. The rainforest is more varied here, with strangler figs, buttressed trees, stinging trees and large rainforest trees such as white booyong. After walking for about 500 metres you will come to a clearing beside the road - Western Window - with a magnificent view over the scenic rim of mountains to the west. You can see Cunningham's Gap and Mount Barney on a clear day. Walk down some steps and you will reach a junction. If you take the track to the right, you will walk below the rocky basalt cliffs and through wet sclerophyll forest and rainforest.

Morelia Track, Manorina

Brisbane Forest Park, Mount Nebo Road, The Gap QLD 4061

On a clear day, the Morelia Track, Manorina offers spectacular views as far as the sparkling white sand hills of Moreton Island. Walk from the picnic area through tall open forest to the summit of Mount Nebo. Patches of rainforest along the way provide a cool contrast to the more open forest and pockets of cabbage tree palm rainforest. At the end of the walk there are large granite boulders on which to sit and ponder, and perhaps plan your next walk.

Old Stone Hut

57 Gap Road, The Gap NT 870
Initially constructed sometime between mid-1940 and mid-1945, the Stone Hut on Lot 6441 Town of Alice Springs is important because it is an example of a building design and technique no longer practiced in the NT.
