Originally operating as Soni’s restaurant with funky cocktail bar 'Madame Fling Flong' upstairs, the venue has now changed hands, with new proprietors licensee Matt Kennedy and head chef Chris Bell retaining the name yet changing things up with a brand new tapas-style restaurant and front bar.

The duo met through their love of fresh produce and the slow food movement, and currently cultivate a plot of land north of Sydney on which they grow a large proportion of the new menu's fresh ingredients. Chef Chris Bell produces the house-cured charcuterie, pickles and hand crafted cheeses, and infuses oils with home-grown herbs and fruits. By growing our own ingredients locally and producing menu items from scratch, we're ensuring a freshness and authenticity of cuisine.

The style of dining, whilst not strictly European, is derivative of the tapas and pinxos bars of Spain and the Basque region

It has been newly updated and includes a TAB, sports bar with big screen, pool tables and jukebox with all of your favourites. The Alfred Hotel is a classic Sydney watering hole. With a late night license and an inexpensive bistro, the pub is popular with students from nearby Sydney University, nurses from the RPA hospital and Camperdown locals. The pub was built in 1939 and is often referred to as the “Grose Farm Hotel”, its former name.

The Bank Hotel on King Street in newtown is back after a $5million overhaul. Blue satin drapes, muted chocolate hues, mirror-skirted fireplaces and a bar edged by vast slabs of back-lit, honey-hued onyx bring a new ambience to the Bank. With cocktails, wine and Thai-influenced food it's agreat place to hang out with friends.

Ideally situated for a pre- or post-cinema bite, this bar/eatery entices with a menu chock-full of Italian nibbles and great pizzas. With a name like Martini, it seems rude not to indulge in a cheeky wee cocktail while you're at it. The lighting is attractively muted and the decor is modern, but the most inviting feature has to be the balcony overlooking Norton Street. Beware, cinemagoers: the views of Leichhardt's nightlife from above may prove to be more interesting than the film.
