Over the years since we started here in Fremantle the brewery itself has grown and developed to where it is today…a journey that has certainly been a challenge but ultimately rewarding. Our cracker of a new brew-house has recently been commissioned, allowing us to brew not only more beer on site in Fremantle but brew it with a far greater nod to our environment, utilising cutting edge technology.

Next time you’re in Fremantle make sure you drop by to say hi and have a good look around the Brewery…look out for us brewers, we’re the one’s in the bright orange shirts and if you catch us at the bar (which there’s a very good chance of) don’t be afraid to say g’day and share a yarn...it’s all in the name of great beer!

The Orient Restaurant in the Heritage Room on the first floor of the Orient is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, serving modern Australian cuisine in an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere. The Fly by Night Musicians Club is a not for profit community musicians club and music venue located in the heart of Fremantle, Western Australia.

The Club was founded in 1986 by Musicians and Music lovers, and it remains one of the few venues that remains dedicated to the music!

The Fly By Night Musicians Club has a rich history of musicians, actors, comedians, and even circus performers who have showcased their talent on the Fly's stage over the last 20 years with local, national and international artists performing at the club.

The Fly has seen the beginnings of some of WA's biggest bands including the John Butler Trio, The Waifs, Eskimo Joe, The Flairz, The Panics plus many more who have started off their careers at the club.

Kailis Fish & Lobster Market Cafe,

located on the waterfront at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, provides the finest seafood available and excellent service in a working fish market environment, creating one of the most unique and memorable seafood experiences in the world.

First founded as 'G.P Kailis and Sons' fish market in 1928, Kailis' respect for tradition and knowledge of the fishing industry has seen Kailis Fish & Lobster Market Café inducted into 'The Awards Hall of Fame' through the West Australian Tourism Awards. This passion and experience can be tasted in every fresh fish and chips.

I could go on and on about Joy Kitchen. In fact I have. During my time as a food reviewer at the Fremantle Herald I wrote six reviews of Joy Kitchen between 1997 and 2005.

When I'm asked for tips about dining out in Fremantle I always mention Joy Kitchen first. In one of the reviews I even admonished then Fremantle Mayor Richard Utting who had been quoted in The Sunday Times saying that Fremantle didn't have a first rate Chinese restaurant. I respectfully pointed the Mayor in the direction of Point Street. Interestingly enough Mr Utting has been at Joy Kitchen at both of my last two visits. When Wei Lin and Harry opened their restaurant in an out-of-the-way Fremantle spot in 1996 they had a plan. They would serve the kind of food they would want to eat using the best of fresh ingredients. They wanted to create healthy Cantonese meals as they would at home with the emphasis on quality and freshness. Once when I was speaking to Wei Lin about Joy Kitchen she paused and then said: "Actually it's not a restaurant it is a kitchen."

In the hub of commercial Essex Street, this traditional Turkish restaurant brings a welcome slice of the Middle East and the Mediterranean to the shores of Fremantle. From dips to kebabs to baklava, Istanbul Turkish Restaurant's cuisine is produced fresh, and with lots of flavour, too. The atmosphere gets a bit livelier on Friday and Saturday nights when the belly dancer shakes up a storm.

Frederic Verschoore, was born and trained in Lyon, France. In 1980s worked in the One-Michelin-Star Le Fedora Lyon and Two-Michelin-Star Les Embassadeurs at the Hotel Crillon in Paris before landing the Chef De Partie position in 1993 the 3-Michelin-Star Troigros Restaurant in Roanne. Troigros Restaurant is one of France most respected restaurant operated by third generation Chef Michel Troigros, who recommended Frederic Verschoore as Chef to Margaux Restaurant at Kowloon Shanghri-La in Hong Kong. Frederic Verschoore then spent five years in that vibrant city and met Letitia who was to become his wife.

In 2000 Frederic Verschoore and his family moved to Japan as he had the position as Chef of Palazzo Restaurant at the Royal Park Hotel in Tokyo, a city where French food is popular. After 6 years working in Tokyo, with an opportunity to own a restaurant in Fremantle, he decided to make his dream come true. With his family they came to Fremantle in March 2006. They have the restaurant Great Mellie open on the 11 May 2007.

Chef Frederic has a strong traditional classic French cooking knowledge. With this knowledge he creates his own dishes, yet nothing like traditional heavy saucing. The food is pivotal yet it is not classical French, nor Oriental nor fusion, as Chef Frederic call it “my style”.

Since that time and through the heady days of the America’s Cup, many cafes have come and gone but one constant has been Gino’s on the corner of Market Street and South Terrace, the gateway to Fremantle’s famous Cappucino Strip.

Why has Gino’s lasted where so many others have failed? There are a number of factors - but the biggest one is consistently good coffee that is consistently well made.

It all starts with the coffee. Through many years of trial and error in blending and sourcing beans, Gino’s now produces it own custom blend of coffees. It is selected from the finest beans on offer and blended to produce a consistently good coffee.

Gino’s produces its coffee in a variety of sizes and styles ranging from one kilo bags of beans (suitable for cafes) to a variety of 250g packs for customers to enjoy at home (suitable for either a machine and plunger).

Zapata’s Mexican Restaurant is situated in both Fremantle & Northbridge, with over 200 seats, Zapatas has been pleasing customers for over 16 years. Zapatas brings the spirit of Mexico to each of the large meals whilst you can listen to the latest cumbias, reggaton, salsas and other great modern “exitos” (hits).

Thai food is internationally famous. Whether chilli-hot or comparatively bland, harmony is the guiding principle behind each dish. Thai cuisine is essentially a marriage of centuries-old Eastern and Western influences harmoniously combined into something uniquely Thai. The characteristics of Thai food depend on who cooks it, for whom it is cooked, for what occasion, and where it is cooked to suit all palates.

Instead of serving dishes in courses, a Thai meal is served all at once, permitting diners to enjoy complimentary combinations of different tastes. A proper Thai Food meal should consist of a soup, a curry dish with condiments, a dip with accompanying fish and vegetables. A spiced salad may replace the curry dish. The soup can also be spicy, but the curry should be replaced by non spiced items. There must be a harmony of tastes and textures within individual dishes and the entire meal.

Bibik Chan's Satay Garden Restaurant is famous for their expertise with satays and other delicacies from the South East Asia region. A true culinary experience, Bibik Chan's is regarded by some as serving the best Rendang Beef in Perth. Welcome to the Cedar Tree Lebanese restaurant, right in the heart of Fremantle’s busy cappuccino strip. The Cedar Tree serves contemporary and traditional dishes including the famous Mezzas. Food is a very important part of socialising in Lebanon with many dishes taking hours of preparation and they think nothing of spending hours eating. The secret to good Lebanese cuisine is that it must be freshly prepared and cooked. Culley's Tea Rooms, the home of award-winning mouth watering pies, daily baked delights, freshly ground coffee and the famous horseshoe roll. Culley's is located in the heart of Fremantle and has been serving the community of Fremantle for over 80 years.

The Bengal Indian Restaurant has been in existence since 1981. Originally situated in High Street, Fremantle, it is now housed in the beautiful Old Firestation, one of Fremantle's finest heritage buildings.

The upper section of the building is home to International Backpackers, many of whom gain work experience in the restaurant, adding to the multi-cultural flavour of the restaurant.

Beloved by the local French community, this cafe specialises in fresh bread and pastries baked on site, making it an ideal spot for a light lunch or perhaps a mid-morning coffee and croissant.

Parisian born and trained pastry chef Gerard Machefert has brought a little piece of France to the heart of Fremantle. JJ's Cafe and Patisserie specialises in authentic French pastries all made on the premises. Sit outside under the grapevine and indulge yourself with millefeuille, layers of light vanilla custard and melt-in-the-mouth homemade puff pastry. The bavarois (chocolate sponge with chocolate cream in a chocolate case) is the perfect indulgence after a meal from the petite, but very functional, menu.
