The Motel Royal Tara is located in the historic village of Binalong. Nestled among the rolling hills on the Burley Griffin Way 37 kilometres north-west of Yass and 320 kilometres south-west of Sydney. In 1821 Hamilton Hume's exploratory party became the first known group of Europeans in this area. The old village was also home to one of Australia's best known poets Banjo Paterson. One of Australia's most notorious bushrangers, Johnny Gilbert, lies buried just outside of Binalong. Since opening in 1986, Motel Royal Tara has provided accommodation with a quality of friendly services and facilities. The Motel offers an a-la-carte Dining Room with Chefs Joseph and Tom Duffy. Australian/French cuisine, specialising in fresh seafood and excellent steaks, (BYO) drinks and room service. Light lunches, great coffee and homemade pies are also offered. The historic village of Binalong is nestled in wooded hills on the Burley Griffin Way, 320 kilometres south west of Sydney and 37 kilometres north west of Yass. Binalong is home to one of Australia's only purpose-built Motor Museums, and Peter Minson's beautiful glass art at Southern Cross Glass. The town square has an old general store (now a cafe), a fountain and old style lamps. The old Cobb and Co Inn (1847) on the Yass Road is now the Black Swan Art Gallery. The Patterson Pub (1840s), is a great example of of pise and bricks.. The old two-storey courthouse dates from 1883. Adjacent is a single-storey brick policeman's residence while the old railway station, erected in 1876 and closed in 1915, is now a private residence....

Kuriong Sheep Station

Kuriong Sheep Station is a wonderful tourist attraction for coach or group bookings and is only one kilometre from the Binalong village. They are a fourth generation working property in rural New South Wales, and their aim is to share everyday life on the farm with rural and non-rural people interested in learning about agriculture in Australia today. This property has recently been taken over by fourth generation farmer, Max, and his wife Zoe. Together they run Merino sheep and, more recently, Murray Grey cattle. Come down to the wool shed and watch some shearing, wool handling, drenching, branding, whip cracking and yard dog demonstrations. If you are feeling energetic, climb to the top of hill "Kileys", of the Banjo Patterson poem. Bookings essential. Minimum 25 people for group bookings - Tours not available on Wednesdays....
