Corra Linn Distillery is situated on a rural property in Relbia overlooking the North Esk River, with a vista of Mt Barrow and Ben Lomond. Corra Linn distillery began operation in 2015 by entrepreneur John Wielstra from a keen interest in whisky production. Corra Linn Distillery is a very sophisticated, versatile and efficient operation that produces highly refined distilled spirits from the finest Tasmanian ingredients. The state of the art distillation equipment caters for a full range of spirits. The new generation still is a combination pot-hybrid-column system that is automated using an electronic switchboard. A furnace has also been built on site to produce a smoked malted barley. Barrels are sourced and refashioned by a local Tasmanian cooper. The barrels used, range in size (20, 50, 100, 200 and 300 litres) and are a combination of ex-port, sherry and pinot barrels using French oak staves that are treated to our own specifications. A variety of speciality single malt whisky will be produced, along with liqueurs, gin and vodka. Note, the distillery may be viewed by appointment only. Cellar door sales are not available. Evandale is one of the best-preserved historic towns in Australia, known for its 19th century buildings and relatively untouched streetscape, with some buildings dating back to 1809. Given its rich diversity, it's worth taking half a day to wander around with a local map. A shorter visit should at least include a walk down the High Street - one of the most attractive historic main streets in Tasmania. Evandale's traditional English atmosphere makes it ideally suited to host the National Penny Farthing Championships, held each year in February and attracting enthusiasts from around the world. Nearby to Evandale is Clarendon House, a grand Georgian mansion owned by the National Trust and one of Australia's greatest Georgian houses still standing today. This beautiful estate is all convict-built and has formal gardens and grounds, a tree-lined avenue, Italianate facade and restored early colonial outbuildings. Perth has over 40 historic buildings, many dating back to the early 1800s, and lovely views to the Great Western Tiers mountain range - and it's just an 8-min drive (8 km) from Launceston airport. Of note is the Baptist Tabernacle in Clarence St, with its octagonal shape, domed iron roof and large panelled doors. At the southern end of town on the Midland Highway is Eskleigh, a particularly grand and attractive two-storey residence dating from 1870 with a three level tower, two-storey bay windows and a number of outbuildings. The building is a fine example of a Victorian classical mansion. The Leather Bottle Inn is the oldest building in the town. Built in 1830, this simple building looks much like a child's drawing. Some of the walls are over 60 cm thick and there are still handmade nails in the original cedar. The best way to learn about the town's history is to take a self-guided walking tour with a National Trust brochure, available at the Post Office. You can also visit the Tasmanian Honey Company and sample unique leatherwood honey or see the wooden carved sculptures at the Lions Train Park. Perth was settled in 1821 and named after Perth in Scotland. Perth is a 15-min drive (19 km) from central Launceston....
