The Tahune AirWalk Lodge is located a 30-minute drive south of the Geeveston township in Southern Tasmania. Set amongst the tall trees of the southern forests around the Tahune Airwalk, ideal for all visitor's including families, school groups and backpackers. Accommodation includes three bedroom wings totalling eight rooms including two bunk rooms (each sleeps four), two family rooms with double and two single beds, two triple rooms with single bed and a set of bunks (each sleeps three) and two rooms with a double bed, accessible by wheelchair. The centrepiece of the complex is a central hub with fireplace, a television with a section of DVDs, books, newspaper, and free Wi-Fi, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchen with complimentary tea and coffee. Basic dining packs can be purchased at the cafe during opening hours (0900 till 1700). The shared bathroom facilities also cater for people with disabilities. Experience the attractions of the AirWalk site including the bird's eye view form the tree canopy. The Tahune AirWalk Lodge is approximately a 90-minute drive (89 km) from the capital city of Hobart. The Jetty House is an historic home situated by the bay in tiny Southport, south of Hobart. Travelling time is a 90-minute drive from the capital. Jetty House has six standard rooms with three bathrooms, accommodating up to 12 guests. Facilities include two separate lounges with open fireplaces and a selection of games and books as well as wide shady verandas and a barbecue shelter. The house is set in two and a half acres of lush gardens. Settlement Creek runs through the grounds and the property is located opposite Southport Beach. You can book a 'bed and breakfast' room or the whole house as self contained accommodation with breakfast provisions. Geeveston

The small township of Geeveston is at the southern end of the beautiful Huon Valley and is the gateway to the Arve River forests and Hartz Mountains National Park. Apple orchards grow in the lush green valleys nearby and during autumn, you can buy buckets of Pink Lady, Crofton, Red Delicious, Granny Smith and Fuji apples from roadside stalls. Surrounded by the dense forests of southern Tasmania, the town is the administrative centre for the region's timber industries and once the focal point of dissent in Tasmania's forestry wars. The town's forestry heritage is evident in the woodcarvings of local historical figures found around the town, with accompanying stories telling of their exploits. Many artisans and crafters have made Geeveston home and there's a surprising number of cafes, bakeries and roadhouses for the size of the town. There are several casual eateries and on Fridays and Saturdays, you can enjoy some of the best sushi in Australia, made by master sushi-chef Masaaki Koyama using the freshest local produce. Out of Geeveston is the nearby Tahune Air Walk, a walkway suspended in the canopy of the trees above the beautiful Picton River with stunning panoramic views. Other activities nearby are the Hasting Caves and Thermal Springs, and the Ida Bay Railway. Geeveston is a 1-hr drive (60 km) south of Hobart....

Hartz Mountains National Park

The Hartz Mountains at the southern end of the Huon Valley are part of the Tasmanian World Heritage Wilderness Area. A range of walking tracks lead through subalpine woodlands to ice-carved crags, lakes and alpine moorlands. On clear days there are superb views east to the sea and west into the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. The Waratah Walk takes just a few minutes to reach a lookout with sweeping forest views. The Arve Falls Walk takes you through alpine fields and woodlands to the edge of a plateau overlooking waterfalls and the valley below. There are no camping facilities at the park but camping is allowed 500 metres from any road. Day facilities are basic, with a toilet, running water and a picnic shelter near the entrance to the Waratah Lookout track with an open fireplace, gas barbecue and tables. A range of commercial accommodation can be found in any of the towns in the Huon Valley, including Huonville, Geeveston and Southport. The weather can change suddenly at any time of year, so be prepared for cold conditions, even in summer....
