Crabtree River Cottages is located in the beautiful Huon Valley at Grove, just a 25-minute drive from Hobart. The property is heritage listed and sits on the banks of the Crabtree River and overlooks ?Sleeping Beauty? mountain. We offer two private and comfortable federation-style self-contained cottages named Emily and Eliza. Both cottages have a kitchenette, very high vaulted ceilings, en-suite with two-person spa plus separate shower, romantic bedroom, large decks with barbecue and verandas overlooking Crabtree River. The river is an active playground for platypus and trout, and the pastures beyond are home to wallabies and the odd Tasmanian devil. Experience country life with a carnival atmosphere at the Huon Show "The Show of the South". The programme of judging and sporting events will include horse ring events for hacks, galloways, leading rein, large and small ponies as well as livestock judging, heavy horse judging, ute muster, woodchopping, show jumping and dog high jumping. The children will be entertained by the puppet shows and games at the Children's marquee. And of course the whole family can take a look at the animals and machinery in the Grand Parade. Studio Karma is an artist's studio and gallery in Tasmania's Huon Valley. Located at Glen Huon, the Studio is a five-minute drive west of Huonville, and a 40-minute drive south-west of Hobart (58 km). Studio Karma is the home of Tasmanian watercolourist Terry Choi-Lundberg. You can view the artist's original work, including landscapes and portraiture, at the Studio Karma gallery by appointment. A series of cards and prints featuring paintings by Terry Choi-Lundberg and her late father, Tak Chuen Choi are also available, with a percentage of the sale price donated to charities of the artist's choosing. There are a number of other artists and galleries in the Huon Valley and D'Entrecasteaux Channel area. Visit the Woodfired Pottery at Glen Huon so see work by potter John Martin. The Regnan's Gallery at Peppermint Bay, near Woodbridge, displays quality Tasmanian art and craft, and at Enchanted Woods at Castle Forbes Bay, you can watch a local wood turner creating fine woodcraft from Tasmanian specialty timbers....

The Wooden Boat Centre in Franklin is a boat building school and a discovery centre under the same roof. Situated on the banks of the Huon River, Franklin is a maritime heritage township in the Huon Valley, a 45 km drive south of Hobart. In the discovery centre you can read about the history of wooden boat building, water transport on the river and discover maritime tools and artefacts. On the guided tour through the workshop you get to see students and boatbuilders in action and the smell of Tasmania's unique boat building timbers including Huon pine, King Billy pine and Celery top pine will welcome you. On the way out have a browse in the gift shop, where you can choose from a range of nautical gifts and Wooden Boat Centre merchandise. The Wooden Boat School offers boat-building courses ranging in length from one day to full-time certificate courses. The courses teaches traditional wooden boat-building methods and focuses on the construction of timber vessels through all stages from lofting to launch. ...

Willie Smith's Apple Shed is the hottest hut in the Huon Valley: craft ciders, artisan cheeses, and plenty of space to sit, chat, roll in the hay, etc. They've partnered up with other like-minded locals to throw a mini midwinter festival to celebrate the region's apple-pickin' history. At its core is a focus on wassailing: the ages-old tradition of scaring nasties out of cider apple trees, from orchard to orchard, in order to bring on a stellar autumn yield. Now, things may seem a little strange at first: kings, queens, processions, giving gifts to the trees, shouting, banging, fire, candlelight, and so forth, but what else would you expect? And if none of that bobs your Geeveston fanny, that's okay too - there'll be cider, entertainment and feast-worthy food in abundance....

The second Sunday of the month sees the grand old Ranelagh Soldiers Memorial Hall transformed into one of the Huon Valley's premiere markets, with boundless local creativity on display among over 30 stalls, including handcrafts, local produce, delicious food, upcycled, vintage, fashion and antiques. Local musical acts perform all day at every market on the fabulous old stage, and the two halls are filled with activity, community spirit and colourful stalls. Outside you can find marquees packed with surprises, bargains and fresh produce. And across the road the acclaimed Ranelagh General Store is cooking up a storm and providing locally roasted coffee. Enjoy the local spirit, great food and drink, inspiring Tasmanian made products and the festivity of a day out together in the charming and historic Ranelagh Soldier's Memorial Hall. A Taste of the Huon is a celebration of fine food, wine, arts, crafts and entertainment from the Huon Valley, D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island regions of Tasmania. Held at Ranelagh which is only 30 minutes scenic drive south of Hobart, the festival is held over the long weekend in March and is one the most popular regional events in Tasmania drawing over 20,000 people throughout its two day program. With around 90 stalls the festival is about showcasing some of the finest and freshest quality produce and quality wines the state has to offer, all of which can be found in the abundant cafes, wineries and berry farms that are scattered amongst rolling hills and along the winding Huon River. The Market features 30+ stalls showcasing and selling the best produce and craft of the Huon Valley.
