Bleasdale Winery and Vineyards is owned and operated by fifth generation members of the Potts family, with Paul Hotker as the current winemaker. The winery, founded in 1850, has been classified by the National Trust and is listed on the State and National Heritage Registers. The cellars, constructed from red gum and limestone, house the old red gum vats and some of the equipment used by previous generations. The splendid red gum lever press, hand-sawn in the 1890's, is well worth a look. Since early last century Newman?s Horseradish has been available in South Australia. The Original Red Label Horseradish is one of South Australia?s food icons. In 1947 the business was purchased by the Meakins family from Fred Newman. Production continued at Tea Tree Gully until 1985 when Brian Meakins bought land at Langhorne Creek. The property on the banks of the Bremer River offered the deep black alluvial loam needed for the Horseradish. A factory for processing was completed in 1992. Using the original recipe, Brian and Anne Meakins and their staff carry out all stages of production. This business is a true example of value adding. All the accommodations have Queen sized beds, TV, VCR, own kitchens and reverse cycle a/c, the Managers Cottage also boasts an open fire with a $35 fee to cover cleaning plus a basket of wood.
