The tandem flight is our first step toward learning the beautiful art of hang gliding. Get hands-on flying experience, safely hanging along side an advanced, certified tandem instructor. Flight duration is approximately 20 - 30 minutes. Choose between a foot launched soaring flight or a 3000ft high altitude aero-towed flight. You can also capture your flying experience and show your friends with an in-flight video! While flying in and around the Newcastle area, we use a number of different flying sites. From coastal ridges to the inland mountains of the Watagan National Forest.

The Fort Scratchley Historical Society has a vast collection of artifacts which have been acquired over the years.
The objects illustrate life in the Fort since 1882 but part of the collection also relates to Newcastle local and military history.
This collection is presently being re-documented and refurbished and this will take some time to complete.
Currently, we are planning the best ways to display the artifacts now the fort is reopened.
Because of the huge amount of information available about the history of Fort Scratchley, this page is divided into several secondary pages covering separate stages throughout the Fort's history. We have also included some worthwhile links on our history The Fort has also undergone several name changes during its colourful history.

The story of the Hunter Wetlands Centre Australia is nothing less than inspirational.
Until the mid 1980s this vibrant wetland refuge was a dump in every sense of the word! Over the previous century, the massive Hunter estuary wetland system known as Hexham Swamp had been progressively filled for rubbish, railways and recreation, leaving only fragmented patches of remnant wetlands across the estuary. A significant patch of wetland in Shortland was converted to football fields and a clubhouse. This one-time home ground of the Hamilton Rugby Club was to become the eventual site of the Hunter Wetlands Centre.
Today, Hunter Wetlands Centre Australia is a vibrant wetland ecosystem bursting with life. The site is regarded as a wetland of national and international importance and the centre enjoys a growing reputation for excellence in wetland conservation, education and ecotourism.
This remarkable transformation was due to the determination and persistence of the local community and some far-sighted organisations, who have joined forces to protect and restore this remarkable wetland for the benefit of all who depend on it… and those who simply enjoy it!.
