Crafers is full of locations where historic buildings once stood. Keep an eye out for a small brochure called "An Historic Walk Through Crafers". It lists a number of sites along Summit Road, Cox Creek Road and the Crafers Main Street. The historic Mount Lofty Summit has recently been modernised to include lots of car parking and an exceptional restaurant, that offers superb views over Adelaide and across Gulf St Vincent. It was first sighted and named by Matthew Flinders in 1802. Take Summit Road and follow the signs. Crafers greatest claim to fame is that the Crafers Hotel is the oldest hotel in the Hills plus it was one of the earliest settlements in the Adelaide Hills. One of Crafers little secrets is the outstanding Mount Lofty Botanical Gardens nestled in the hills behind Crafers (take the Summit Road and follow the signs), these gardens, with their rich displays of rhododendrons, magnolias and camellias are best seen in spring although they are still impressive all year round. The Adelaide Hills Petanque Club is a community run sporting club offering fun, camaraderie and personal challenges for all members of our community. We have been around for over 10 years and have grown a membership base to approximately 60. Petanque is a unique sport in that it can be played by nearly all ages and physical abilities/disabilities at the same time. It can also be a game that can be played at everyone's convenience as we play all year round. We are also affiliated with the South Australian Petanque League so if the desire to get more competitive is there we can accommodate that as well. All visitors are made to feel welcome, our members will be only too happy to give you a few tips, plus we have plenty of spare equipment for you too, just bring yourself along and have a go.
