Maidenwell

Maidenwell, Maidenwell ACT 4615
Maidenwell, around 20 minutes drive south west of Nanango, is a charming village at the gateway to the Bunya Mountains. Stop in at the quaint country pub for a beer or relax over lunch and a coffee at the Maidenwell Trading Post (home to locally grown Yalbury Olive products). The magnificent Coomba Falls, just out of town, makes a lovely picnic spot. Maidenwell was originally a portion of the immense Tarong holding. One of the first selectors to take up land from Tarong Station was John King in 1881, but it was not until 1912 that he acquired the block of land on which Maidenwell stands. Timber from the Bunya Mountains and its foothills was a major industry in the early days of settlement when the railway line was extended to Tarong early in the twentieth century. Be sure to fuel up in Maidenwell before you head up to the Bunya Mountains, as the next available fuel stop is not until you descend into Kumbia and Kingaroy on the other side of the mountain....
