It appears to be reasonably well maintained but much of the corrugated galvanised iron cladding is rusted and the visible timberwork is in need of painting. The site was locked at the time of inspection and there is no public access....

The site is part of the former North Australia Railway consisting of a steel frame railway bridge supported by concrete pylons. There is a boiler associated with the site but the provenance of the boiler is not known. There is a suggestion that the boiler was used during the construction of the bridge and left on site. The bridge is in use by the present railway and is the only historic bridge that was reused when the new railway line was constructed....

The former Shackle settlement site located on the Mount Bonnie Road is of historical significance as the location of the first telegraph station and settlement in the early Yam and Pine Creek gold mining district, and as the region?s administrative and service centre from 1872 to 1886....

This site is characterised by a large number of structural remains and diverse artefact assemblage. Brocks Creek Chinatown contains terraced rock and earth floors, rock hearths, other raised hearths, temple foundations, iron and concrete fireplace, ships tanks and associated artefacts including tins, wire, nails, corrugated galvanised iron, glass, machinery fragments, Chinese porcelain and stoneware. The site also contains a large Chinese oven, about 2m high, constructed of stone mortared with termite nest material and lined on the inside with clay...

The Railway Precinct comprises the 1889 Railway Station; a parcel store adjacent to the railway station; a goods store opposite the railway station building; a large covered shed in which are stored the engine and carriage; a loading platform and crane; a reservoir for water; an accommodation building; railway track and associated equipment, including a small toilet block....

Pine Creek is the only original mining town remaining in the Top End from the gold rush era of the 1870s, and its National Trust Museum building is the oldest surviving prefabricated structure in the Northern Territory. Originally the home of the mining warden in Burrundie, the building was moved to Pine Creek in 1913. Over the years it served many purposes, including as a doctors residence, clinic, dispensary, military hospital, and post office and exchange. Today the building houses the National Trust museum and town library. Look through the building to find out more about the gold rush, local Chinese history, buffalo hunters and the Overland Telegraph Line. ...

The carriage is in fair-good condition and kept in the Ghan Carriage Washing and Maintenance Shed along with an 1877 Beyer Peacock NF class steam locomotive and a small Western Australian Government Railways TA class diesel-electric shunting engine. The NABP13 Passenger Carriage, built in Port Augusta in 1925, is a well preserved example of an early 20th century composite railway passenger carriage catering for both first and second class passengers. The carriage operated on both the Central and North Australia Railway. Both of these railways are considered to be significant to the history of the Territory as major infrastructure initiatives that played an important role in the development of the Territory...

Six remaining gravesites situated on a flat area in open woodland covered by thick grass. Two wooden posts with some fencing wire attached remain at the northern and southern extremities of the remaining gravesites (approximately 56 paces apart) and at the western side of the area in which the remaining graves are located. It is likely that these are the remains of the fence erected around the cemetery in 1902. A marble headstone in the shape of a cross resting on a concrete block marks George Alwynne Wilson?s grave. Iron railings set in concrete featuring ornamental ironwork on the corner posts surround the grave. Clara Caddy's grave is marked by the top half of a rusted tin memorial head plate and has iron fencing around the grave featuring a repeated fleur-de-lis pattern. Two seashells have been placed on the grave inside the fencing. Another small grave is marked with a concrete border, one other is marked with a slate headstone and another with a border of rusted tin...

The site consists of a pre-fabricated steel frame building that was originally erected at the goldmining township of Burrundie before being move to Pine Creel in 1913. The verandahs have been infilled with timber frame and corrugated galvanised iron cladding and timber-frame windows and timber slat shutters over the years. The building, which is now locally referred to as the "repeater station", was originally erected at Burrundie as the Chief Mining Warden's quarters. Completed in 1889 it served as accommodation and office space for the Mining Warden at Burrundie until 1905 when the position was transferred to Pine Creek. The building at Burrundie continued in use by the Mines Department, accommodating the Assistant Warden. In 1913 the building was dismantled and transferred to Pine Creek to serve as the quarters for the Chief Mining Warden E.C.Playford....

Fishing competition at Shady Camp with around 100 competitors. Fishing will start at 6am on the Saturday of the round and finish at 6pm on Sunday night. Therefore fish need to be caught on the Saturday and the Sunday of the weekend, NOT FRIDAY NIGHT. Fish can be caught by casting or trolling lures, or by fly fishing. No bait fishing is allowed. No restriction on leader lengths or barbless hooks like other comps. If you choose, your hooks can have barbs and your leader can be as many pounds or as long as you like. ...

The Umbrawarra Gorge Nature Park, located about 115 kilometres from Katherine, protects a beautiful isolated gorge with steep red cliffs and a creek that meanders through the gorge in the early to mid dry season. A walking track winds alongside the creek to a large pool with a small sandy beach and the rest of the gorge can only be reached by wading, swimming and rock hopping. The Wagiman Aboriginal people are the traditional owners of the land, and ancient Aboriginal art adorns the gorge walls. The car park near the entrance of the gorge was the site of a tin mine in the early 1900s. Permits must be obtained for rock climbing and abseiling. No water is available, so please bring your own supplies and camping fees apply. Please note that during the tropical season, especially after rain, the road may be closed....
