European vineyard style
Stephanette's Cottage emanates a sense of European style and calm from the moment you wander down the rose-fringed path to the front door. This beautiful cottage enjoys a private aspect overlooking the vines and olive groves on Anette and Stephen Stoll's Barossa vineyard on the banks of the Para River, near the hamlet of Light Pass. Their days are filled managing their own and others' vineyards, and their love for the Barossa and knowledge of wine is reflected in the cottage they share with guests.
The warming wood fire is the focal point of the open-plan lounge, dining and kitchenette where the generous breakfast provisions, based largely on local regional produce, can be prepared. Deluxe appointments include underfloor heating and air-conditioning, making this a stay for any season. In the European style, the fluffy eiderdowns are invitingly plumped and the new en suite simply sparkles.
But the real delight for any romancing couple will surely be the wonderful outdoor hydrotherapy spa sitting tantalisingly just beyond the bedroom's French doors. With views over the vineyards, this is the ultimate invitation to unwind over a glass of sparkling with the one you love....
The Tomfoolery Wines adventure began in the sweltering heat of the 2004 harvest between best mates Ben Chipman and Toby Yap, and a tonne of old vine Shiraz. The fruit was picked with some generous assistance from friends, then de-stemmed and basket pressed to produce the first ?Artful Dodger? Shiraz. Over the following vintages the boys expanded their production to include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Mataro, Tempranillo and Pinot Noir.
The Tomfoolery winemaking philosophy is simple: small parcels of fruit, hand-crafted through a simple and relatively non-interventional approach with the aim to truly reflect the individual characteristics of the vineyard and variety.
Tomfoolery wines are made with old world simplicity in a new world of wine. The fruit from our selected vineyards is hand picked and fermented in small open fermenters, which are pumped over by hand twice daily. Wines are matured in barrel, stacked in pyramids on traditional stillage, and bottled with no fining or filtration.
Winery is open by prior appointment only. Please email to arrange a visit including anticipated dates and group size....
