Piermont

12990 Tasman Highway, Swansea TAS 7190
Nestled in an unspoilt bay in remote East Coast Tasmania, Piermont is a magnificent sanctuary with a vast wilderness and rich culture to explore. Here, time is marked by serene shifts in the pink of the granite mountains and can be spent at any pace?hiking across the rugged landscapes or savouring local delicacies. The retreat?s peaceful setting is paralleled only by the warmth and casual hospitality of the family who have run it for 25 years. Framed by wild forest and cradled by a glimmering bay, Piermont is a sanctuary of understated luxury hidden in Tasmania?s remote East Coast. Envisioned 25 years ago by a German forester, the retreat?s small community of sustainably built lodgings and 180-year-old Homestead that now houses the restaurant effortlessly coexist with nature, providing a comfortable sense of home in the wild. From inside, sweeping views across Great Oyster Bay complete a feeling of immersion in this poetic landscape; the grind of the city is all but a distant memory....

Mayfield Bay Coastal Reserve

A3, Swansea TAS 7190
Mayfield Bay Coastal Reserve is a conservation area south of Swansea on Tasmania's east coast and a great spot to break your journey along the coast, unpack a picnic and get out your camera. Mayfield Bay's sandy beach and coastal area offers good camping, fishing, swimming, surfing and diving, as well as wonderful views across Great Oyster Bay to Freycinet Peninsula. The reserve has shady trees and toilet facilities but you'll need to bring your own drinking water and camping gear. A little further north from Mayfield Bay is the convict-built Spiky Bridge. This unusual looking bridge was built in the 1840s by a convict road gang. The bridge was built from local fieldstone with stones placed vertically along the parapet, giving the bridge its spiky appearance. It's been claimed that the spikes were designed to prevent cattle falling over the sides. There are also interpretation signs with information about the nearby Rocky Hills Probation Outstation convict ruins. The reserve is a 15-minute drive from Swansea and one-and-a-half-hour drive from Hobart. ...

Milton Vineyard

14635 Tasman Highway, Swansea TAS 7190
Milton Vineyard was first farmed in 1826 initially for fine Tasmanian wool but is now producing fine cool climate wines. We are located at 42 degrees south on the dry sunny Freycinet Coast of Tasmania. The grapes are grown on free draining red loam liberally sprinkled with dolerite rocks. Our vineyard has a unique micro-climate that suits the ancient grape Pinot Noir. Also in our 13 hectare vineyard are plantings of the aromatics Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Gewurztraminer. Our focus is on producing small quantities of handmade wine. Close attention is paid to every detail in the vineyard and the wines represent this exacting work. The warm summers and modest cropping levels typically found on the Freycinet Coast of Tasmania provided the Dunbabin family with an excellent Pinot Noir, superb Riesling, lively Ros?, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, a complex and distinguished Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay, and an award winning Iced Riesling. All grown at our Milton Vineyard on Tasmania's East Coast. The vineyard is meticulously maintained and cared for with attention to detail being paramount. The fruit is hand-picked from mid-April and made into wine by award-winning contract winemakers Julian Alcorso, Greer Carland, and Glenn James at Winemaking Tasmania....
