Hello, good times! You can say many things about the legendary Clock Hotel, but, if you can’t have fun here, well then, you are hard to please. Let’s start with that wraparound balcony. While getting a seat here may require precision timing and an immense amount of luck, once you have experienced drinking from this vantage point on Crown Street, it’s a little hard to ever drink indoors again. The people watching is superb, especially while sipping on the Clock Hotel Martini, while the sun gently sets.
Do not despair if said balcony is full up. There are plenty of inviting areas at the Clock and the booths in the Street Bar are very obliging if there is a few of you. Even though it can get pretty rowdy in here of a Friday night, a surprisingly laidback feel is maintained. However, come midweek if it’s a quiet drink you’re in need of. Better still, sojourn to the Pool Bar to shoot some stick and keep an eye on the game. The Pool Bar has several plasma screens to keep the sports mad well contented.
The Clock is a big renovated pub that caters to a mixed clientele, who range from business men in suits to more casual types who want to leave the working week as far behind as possible. It’s kind of hip at times, without being too painful, and you don’t have to be under 30 to feel at home here.

Sipping on a Manhattan, I read old news clippings pinned to the wall. The articles are about the Hollywood's owner, starlet Doris Goddard, who still regularly performs her own songs and poetry. There's a remnant of the hotel's old timber bar frame which is positioned in the main room. You get the picture, but if not, locals will tell you straight out that the 'Holly' is a Surry Hills icon.

A diverse selection of cookbooks lines the bookshelves in the corner of this industrial style cafe where you can nestle on a banquette, spread out with newspapers or your laptop at big wooden tables, or watch the world go by from the shaded al fresco area out front. Dishes like fish fillets in chickpea batter with a witlof, apple and herb salad are food for thought, indeed.

A childhood that was centred around food, and an upbringing that taught the importance of food and family sparked a love of cooking in Milan Strbac at an early age. Always wanting to learn more about different cuisines and experience different ways of food preparation; led Milan to launching his career with an apprenticeship at Fez Café; a Moroccan / Arabian fusion café in Darlinghurst, located in Sydney’s eastern dining precinct.
Following this was a stint at Sydney’s infamous Marque Restaurant in Surry Hills; closely followed by the Brooklyn Hotel Italian Restaurant in Sydney’s vibrant CBD.
We re-opened The Carrington in the middle of 2011. We kept it true to its origins, a good, old fashioned, neighbourhood pub… Except we made the food and drinks waaaayyyyy more better / interesting. We also made them kind of Spanish… Think the pintos bars of San Sebastian, but then stop thinking that and start thinking about an Aussie pub, on Bourke Street, in Sydney.
There’s high tables and stools in the front bar, so you can get your pub on, but head out the back and our dining area will make you want to lose hours here; ideally over some pintxos and a glass of tempranillo, or our Ibiza muesli and a bloody mary on the weekend. There are loads of nooks and crannies throughout the pub, so you’ll always find a spot. We also provide loads of function spaces, check the FUNCIONES link for more info.

Cochin comes from Cuu Chan, the old Chinese name for the southern part of Vietnam. Portuguese Jesuits probably heard it from the Japanese, whose pronunciation was close to Cochin. Europeans usually called it Cochin-China to distinguish it from the city of Cochin in India. The French annexed Cochin from the Vietnamese Emperor in the 1860s, making it their first colony in Indochina.
Vietnamese cuisine is distinctly regional, with notable differences between northern, central and southern food. Our menu is derived from the southern tradition, with an emphasis on the French influence, which was especially strong in the restaurants and homes of the capital, Saigon. These traditions are combined with Australian products in Cochin’s contemporary style.
