SEAMSTRESS RESTAURANT & BAR OPENED IN 2007 IN MELBOURNE’S HISTORIC CHINATOWN DISTRICT, HOUSED IN A 120YR-OLD FORMER TEXTILE FACTORY, WAREHOUSE AND ONE-TIME BUDDHIST MONASTERY.
Climb the rickety stairs escaping the bustle of the city street to our 50 seater dining room celebrating the merging of traditional pan-asian ingredients with modern kitchen techniques. Our menu is all about shared dining enjoyed in a lively but casual social setting.
Trek up the stairs further to discover our multi-award winning cocktail bar. Inspired by the clubs of yesteryear with a soundtrack of jazz & blues, soft lighting and friendly, knowledgable waiter service. Seamstress is still one of the best places in Australia for a Dry Martini and seasonal cocktails, with a light dinner menu available late into the evening with treats such as crispy Brussels sprouts with white miso dressing & togarashi spices, Malay corn fritters and soft shell crab sliders with green mango & papaya salad.

The very first Monsieur Truffe opened its doors in Prahran market in 2006, back then it was just a one-man operation and a humble beginning. Now we’ve grown to include over 80 stockists, all over Australia, we even stock a selection of online stores too.
Since then, we’ve opened a store on Smith Street in 2008 and, when we needed a bit more growing room, moved on to a larger factory space in the beautiful Brunswick suburb in 2011.
When we started, Prahran markets offered a simple selection of bars and delights, but after adding a small selection of bean-to-bars and seeing its popularity rocket, we added even more. Ten years later and our bean-to-bar range is even larger, and incorporates beans from all over the world, roasted and conched perfectly to showcase their optimal tasting notes. With flavour profiles and intensities to suit even the most discerning of palettes.
Our chocolate factory and retail space also shares a home with the Brunswick hot spot, East Elevation – where we also supply a healthy stock of hot chocolate, ready for them to showcase to the eager masses.
We are committed to sharing our artisinal approach to chocolate-making with our community – we’d love to have you spend time at our place, or with some of our chocolate at yours.
Philosophy
Here at Monsieur Truffe, we use organic ingredients, and wrap our products in environmentally-friendly packaging. We use recycled paper, and we wrap everything the old-fashioned way – by hand. We have a vast selection of organic chocolate delights, with more lines being added every week. It’s important to us to include all walks of life, so we created a huge range of bars and delights suitable for vegan and gluten free diets, all whilst not compromising on quality or flavour.
Whilst flavour and quality are integral to our mission, they are not the only things that drive us. We pride ourselves on being original and our attention to detail, so we love to collaborate with local artists and businesses, making custom creations and incorporating new artwork into the packaging. We also have a commitment and a responsibility to make sustainable and ethical choices to keep the industry in a safe and healthy place.
It’s inspiring to see the chocolate industry developing and changing for the better, and we are doing our most to support, encourage and be part of that change, on a local and global level.
