A scenic track takes you on a loop from Mystery Bay, through the camping ground and to the historic Velodrome, built in the late 1890's by the enthusiastic Corunna Cycle Club. There are many tracks in the camp ground that lead to vantage points where the spectacular emerald green ocean can be seen, as well as great views of Montague Island and the interesting geology of Mystery Bay. You can catch a glimpse of many interesting native animals that regularly wander around the Camp Ground and National Park. When you reach the velodrome, ride around it to become part of history. It is a mown grass oval track some 400 metres in length.

Gulaga (Mt Dromedary) and the surrounding landscape have great spiritual significance to local Aboriginal people, particularly Aboriginal women. The park also incorporates the former Wallaga Lake National Park. In May 2006, the park was handed back to its traditional Aboriginal owners in an historic agreement signed by New South Wales Government and the Yuin people. The mountain is an isolated volcanic core rising 797 metres above sea level and towering over the historical villages of Tilba Tilba and Central Tilba. Viewed from the sea the mountain resembles a dromedary camel. The walking track starts from Tilba Tilba and the walk to the top and return is approximately 14 kilometres and takes about 5 hours. The rainforest is a spectacular sight with pinkwood and sassafras trees draped with long green moss and lichen. The forest floor is covered with fragile ground ferns and mosses.

Mount Gulaga is an extinct volcano rising 797 metres above sea level. The mountain and the surrounding area are significant to the Yuin people, particularly the women. Gulaga has been described by Aboriginal people as the place of ancestral origin for all Yuin people, while the mountain itself symbolises the mother and provides a basis for Aboriginal spiritual identity. The steep track up the mountain was built in 1894 for gold miners. Take the gravel path from Pam's Store in Tilba Tilba and continue up the mountain. At 'Halfway Rock' the trail leads 1.6 kilometres off the main track to the foundations of the mine manager's residence. Return to the main track and 30 minutes later you should reach 'The Saddle' - a great rest spot. Push on to the summit with its spectacular views to the coast, along the way enjoying a beautiful rainforest teeming with life.

Turn off the Princes Highway 20 kilometres south of Narooma onto Corkhill Road for the Bellbird Scenic Drive. The drive begins at the village of Tilba Tilba. Here you can visit the wonderful Foxglove Spire Gardens and specialty shops. Continue along this road that will bring you to the historic village of Central Tilba. Take a stroll through the village and its shops. From here, the road continues, sealed and unsealed, through farms and bush country. Follow this road to the Old Highway and turn right. Further along this road is Tilba Valley Winery which offers tasting of their great selection, lunch and cellar door sales. To conclude the Bellbird Scenic Drive continue on the Old Highway until you reach the foot of Gulaga (Mt Dromedary), where the bellbirds' song echoes through the serene bush. From here return to Narooma via the Princes Highway.

How to get there: Follow the Princes Highway south from Narooma, approximately 10 kilometres, then turn left onto Mystery Bay Road. The Tilba Conservation Area was listed by the National Trust in 1974. Gulaga, formerly Mt Dromedary, is sacred to the people of the Yuin nation and dominates the Tilba region. Gulaga and Niamanga (Mumbulla Mountain, further south) were handed back to the traditional owners in 2006. Goldmining contributed to the district's prosperity but only on a modest scale. At its peak 1902 - 1904, 300 people lived on the mountain. The two villages of Tilba Tilba and Central Tilba relied more of dairying. The ABC Co-operative in Central Tilba was the first cheese co-operative in NSW (1891); the village developed to mainly service farmers delivering milk to the factory. Tilba Tilba is protected by a National Heritage listing; the town was settled mostly during the gold rush years of the 1890s and 1900s and today retains many fine Victorian timber buildings. The town has a pretty setting at the base of Gulaga (Mt Dromedary) which can be accessed from Tilba Tilba. Nestled at the foot of Gulaga (Mount Dromedary) it is a good starting place to explore this beautiful and spiritual land. Gulaga is the mother of ancestral identity for the Yuin people, and to be able to visit is a privilege. Guided walks by local Yuin people are probably the best way to connect with the spirit of the land, but self-guided walkers are welcome. A track leaves from behind La Galette Cafe (formerly Pam's Store), and takes you through rainforest to the summit. Gulaga is the highest point in the area; named Mt Dromedary by Lieutenant James Cook being the shape of a dromedary camel. The summit has strangely-shaped granite outcrops and significant tors being a culturally significant site for the Yuin people. Towards the summit Rainforest species thrive in several places on the upper tiers of the mountain and you can see out to Montague Island off shore. Closer to town is Foxglove Spires, a luscious woodland garden built around a farm cottage. The seasonal gardens are simply stunning, with fragrant wisteria, lavender and an arbour of Manchurian pear trees....

Take the five minute walk from Station Street in Central Tilba for a rewarding panoramic view of the town, surrounding region and Montague Island. The best views can be achieved by walking north once you've reached the water tower. The granite plateau is ideal for setting up your camera or you can even spread out a picnic blanket and simply sit back and enjoy the views of Mother Gulaga. Be sure to shut the gates that you open to stop wayward animals from entering the tower precinct and take care not to get too close to the edge as the lookout is not fenced and the rocks can be a bit slippery when wet....
