Australian Pottery at Bemboka

24 Oliver Street, Bemboka NSW 2550

Australian Pottery at Bemboka is a gallery featuring a broad range of Australian ceramics made in the last half century, both production ware and exhibition pieces. None of the items are new. Some are from the owner's collection, others sourced from the secondary market. All items are available for sale. The aim of the gallery is to bring items from the collection together in the gallery in displays that demonstrate the diversity of work produced by Australian potters over the last fifty years, and some of the trends and cross-influences over time. All fellow collectors, potters, students, historians and art and craft lovers are welcome, or anyone looking for functional or decorative items not quite in the usual style. This season at the gallery our exhibition, entitled "Beyond Design : Forged by Fire", features wood, salt, soda, pit and raku fired pieces from the collection.

Bemboka

Betts Street, Bemboka NSW 2550
Bemboka, "Village in a Valley" was originally settled as a halfway point between Bega and Cooma. The first main settlers arrived in Bemboka in 1871, and were mainly a dairying community with a large number of butter factories in the town. A telegraph station was situated at Brown Mountain and received its first telegraph in September of 1885. A pioneer walk has been established in the Bemboka Park honouring the pioneers of the district. Today Bemboka is a quaint rural village with a backdrop of the Bemboka National Park towering over the township. Scenic views of the whole Sapphire Coast from Pipers Lookout have to be seen to be believed. The new viewing platform and visitor information is an introduction to the wonders of the South East Forests National Park. Lyrebirds line the forest trails and wombats wander the lush rolling countryside.

Pipers lookout

Pipers lookout, Bemboka NSW 2550
Take a break from your journey over Brown Mountain at Pipers lookout. This series of lookouts offers spellbinding views over the Bemboka escarpment and Bega Valley. After checking out the main lookout near the picnic area, follow the 500m boardwalk to a further two lookouts. While this isn’t quite a canopy walk, the descending slope beneath the boardwalk gives you the feeling of floating amongst the eucalypts and lush ferns. You can use the stairs to make a loop of the three lookouts. Whatever you do, be sure to bring your camera – the surrounding old-growth forest and rainforest create excellent photo opportunities. If you have time, take the road opposite Pipers lookout to Rutherford Creek picnic area; you'll find a great walking track that takes you through a towering old-growth forest....
