During the tour we place a strong emphasis on interpretive tours of the Stockton Sand Dunes and beach. We actually own and control the highest coastal sand dunes in the southern hemisphere and they are not open to the public. The only way to see them is through us. This way we can control the Environmental impacts and protection of our Aboriginal heritage. The public and all other tours must use the designated off road areas, low dunes and plenty of people!

Located adjacent to the entrance to Royal Australian Air Force Base Wiliamtown (New South Wales), the home of Australia's Strike / Fighter Force, Fighter World showcases the important role a potent Fighter Force plays in the defence of a nation. Fighter World embraces Australia's rich fighter heritage, painstakingly earned by Australian men and women of the squadrons who flew fighter aircraft.

As part of your visit to Fighter World you will experience first-hand the day to day operations of an active Fighter Base including guided tours and hands-on experiences quite unlike any other Australian aviation museum.

Fighter World is a dynamic view of the past integrated with the present and future. At Fighter World visitors enjoy the opportunity to interact so as to appreciate the surrounding exhibits which conjure images of Australia's prominent role in military aviation history.

Fighter World is a relatively new facility having been officially opened in 1991.

Since opening, Fighter World has had an active relationship with the Royal Australian Air Force and the Newcastle and Port Stephens Tourist Associations, being recognised as one of the area's most popular attractions.

Fighter World will soon take another step forward with the expansion of exhibition and retail areas including the very latest in interactive multi-media technology adding another dimension to the overall visitor experience.

Stockton Beach is situated at the southern end of Newcastle Bight, where there is a sweeping expanse of sand and sand dunes, and views stretching back to Port Stephens. Council Lifeguard Services are provided Monday to Saturday during the swimming season and Easter Holiday periods. Volunteer members of Stockton Surf Lifesaving Club provide beach patrols on Sundays during the swimming season. Stockton Beach has picnic shelters, barbecues in the park adjacent to the beach, a beach kiosk operating next to the main car park, change room facilities, plenty of parking, and relatively sheltered waters suitable for family swimming and learning to surf. Plus the fabulous Stockton Beach Tourist Park is located there!

Take a step back in history as well as a walk through nature. At the beginning of the Scotts Point to Riverside Park trail, you’ll find a visitor information shelter that shows some reproductions of 1860s botanical drawings by the Scott sisters, the daughters of one of the island’s first European settlers. The trail follows the north arm of the Hunter River. It’s an easy walk or you can jump on a bike. There are two rest spots with picnic tables – one at Scotts Point and the other at your final destination, Riverside Park. Once you’re there, you might want to get out your fishing line. There’s a jetty here – the only deepwater one between Newcastle and Raymond Terrace – that’s popular for recreational fishing. If you’re an early riser, dawn around here is spectacular. The water is so still, it’s like a mirror, and the birds are actively fishing and foraging on the river foreshore....

Located at the northern end of Ash Island, near Newcastle, it’s a blissfully peaceful spot with sheltered picnic tables and a large deepwater jetty. What to bring with you? The kids, their bikes, a good pair of walking shoes, a fishing line, and your binoculars. With its relaxing outlook over the Hunter River, you could easily open the Sunday papers and take it easy while the young at heart frolic on the large expanses of grass. But go for a walk and explore some of the other nearby landscapes – there are wetlands nearby, as well as remnants of coastal rainforest. The roads here are especially suitable for cyclists of all levels and take you all over the island, including to the old World War II radar station. Take some time when you pedal past the river foreshore to stop and birdwatch, as this is a popular spot for pelicans and white-faced herons....
