The Cook Off is an exciting team event where participants will compete to be declared the Kiewa Valley Camp Oven Cook Off Champions, also known as the champions. Teams (the cooks) will be required to cook using a traditional bush cooking method, camp ovens over a fire or hot coals. Purchase a ticket to take part in the meal. Two courses will be served to you, a sample of each teams’ main course and dessert course. Once you have sampled this feast, it is up to you to decide who did it best. Votes from all consumers will be totalled and ultimately decide the Cook Off Champion. Come along and enjoy a family day with demonstrations, bush cooking, craft beer, local wines and lots of fun and socialising. Enjoy a day out the beautiful Kiewa Valley, or stay locally and make a weekend of it. You can take part in this fun family event by registering a team of cooks, or by purchasing a ticket to become a consumer. You can also pay a nominal fee to attend on the day. Castle Creek Reserve has a high conservation value to the city. Spread over 54 hectares of land with floristic value, this reserve is a twitcher's delight. Be sure to stick to the Castle Creek Nature Trail (a four kilometre circuit) for the best scenery. Make sure you understand the route you will take - how long and how difficult it is. Walk or ride within your limits. If you intend going on a long walk, take identification, money and your mobile phone in case of an emergency....

Allans Flat Reserve is approximately eight kilometres from Yackandandah, heading north east on the Yackandandah-Wodonga Road. The lake at the reserve is a popular swimming hole for locals, created during the gold rush days from dredge mining. Take your own picnic and shade and enjoy a cool swim during warm summer days and evenings. Allan’s Flat Reserve is managed as a Family Fishing Lake and stocked twice yearly with rainbow trout and annually with golden perch. The lake was created by gold dredging operations. A Recreational Fishing Licence is required unless you are under 18 years or over 70 years old. Contact the Yackandandah Visitor Informationn Centre for a list of retailers where licences can be purchased and information on bait and tackle supplies. The turn-off is easy to miss so keep an eye-out for the unmade road that is the entrance to the Reserve....
