The Jumrum Creek walk is within the Jumrum Creek Conservation Park, which protects a small pocket of rainforest in the middle of the Kuranda township. This short one-way walk can be accessed from Barang Street near the village centre or from Barron Falls Road, both of which have small parking bays. This walk is in the upper section of Barron Gorge National Park, accessed via Kuranda. Explore this elevated, wheelchair-accessible walkway, suspended high above the forest floor, as it winds through lush rainforest and open eucalypt forest canopy to Din Din Barron Falls lookouts. Find out about the nature and culture of Barron Falls and the gorge area from wayside signs. When you reach the lookout, enjoy views over the gorge and scenic Barron Falls. In the wet months, you will be enveloped in a cloud of mist as the falls thunder spectacularly down the gorge. In drier times, enjoy the scenic falls as they tumble endlessly over water-sculpted rocks of the narrow gorge walls. Watch the gondolas on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway glide above the far-side of the gorge and, twice each day, watch the Kuranda Scenic Railway tourist train pull into the platform below the lookout. This award winning boutique style wildlife experience, Kuranda Koala Gardens, is in Kuranda Village right at the Heritage Markets. This is the only place in Kuranda village where you can enjoy the 'Cuddle a Koala' opportunity. A fee applies and this includes a digital souvenir photo. Also visit Kuranda's only walk in Noctarium, called 'Nocturnal Wonders' and some rare species including bettongs, bibles and gliders. Meet tame wallabies, see wombats, freshwater crocodiles, lizards and more. Visit the 'Pioneer Shed' that depicts some of the early history of European settlement in the Kuranda region. A free shuttle bus operates from Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and Kuranda Scenic Train Stations. It's a great attraction for those with limited time in the region, (if you have plenty of time, they also recommend visits to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures). Carrowong Sanctuary is a 90 acre pristine property completely surrounded by World Heritage listed rainforest. This unlogged rainforest gives guests a unique experience to enjoy a pristine area. They have no cages or fences, rainforest life is free to roam. Endangered, rare and vulnerable species include the southern cassowary, musky rat kangaroo, red legged pademelon, northern platypus, pogonomys, antechinus, hydromys, green, striped and pygmy possums and more. Around 130 bird species exist here together with 15 notable reptiles. Flora is unique, with species like Macintyres Boxwood, Licuala Palms, and Plalcospermum. Roads and walking tracks have been constructed to limit the removal of old growth forest, and avoid soil erosion and impeded drainage. Power is generated from the sun, and eco-sensitive composting toilets are used. Their original wildlife tours continue to lead the way in rainforest eco-tourism. Carrowong's Wildlife Mountain Safari concentrates on rare and endangered mammals of the night. A Night in the Rainforest, their nocturnal spotlighting walk, reveals the bio-diversity of these ancient rainforests. Terra Nova Gallery is located in the beautiful rainforest village of Kuranda in Tropical North Queensland a 40 minute drive from the Cairns Central Business District. The Gallery has been in Kuranda for over 20 years. Jurg and Marta took over the Gallery in 2010 and have carried out the work that the previous owners established and have kept the high quality of work and service that is the tradition of the Gallery. Stoney Creek is located in Barron Gorge National Park in Cairns. To get there, drive to Kamerunga and turn off onto Stoney Creek Road from Cairns Western Arterial Road just before the Barron River, Kamerunga Bridge. Follow the road through the valley to the Stoney Creek car park at the end. From the car park, it’s a short walk to the creek where you will find a small footbridge. You can swim below the bridge or cross over and follow a track that runs parallel to the creek to discover many private swimming holes. After approximately 20 to 25 minutes, you will reach the Old Weir Falls. From Stoney Creek, you can also take the Douglas Track up to Glacier Rock with the option to continue onto Speewah on the Atherton Tablelands.
