Built in 1946 and operated as a Post Office until the mid 1970s, the building was refurbished as a shop in 1979 and upgraded by the National Trust in 1998. The Sweet Shop sells a large range of old-fashioned sweets and drinks.

Richmans concentrating plant operated from 1869 until the mine closed in 1923, crushing and concentrating ore from nearby shafts. During this period many alterations were made to the plant to suit the improved technology of mining and processing. The walk provides access to Richmans Engine house and lookouts on the tailings heap. Signs interpret the remaining structures.

See it in action on the screen in the landclearing display and don't miss 'Her Side of the Story' about women on farms. The early history of Wallaroo Mines and the Kadina Township is included along with Matta House. Matta House is the original mine manager's residence which built in 1863. The house still has a shingle roof and is furnished to reflect the height of the mining era. A schoolroom refurbished to its 1950s origins is a favourite with school groups. A new display looks at farm children.
The Historic Wallaroo Town Walk covers Wallaroo's main commercial area which contains various buildings, both commercial and public, dating from 1861. Most of the Owen Terrace streetscape was erected between 1864 and 1900 but, of course, there have been many changes in usage of the buildings. Please call into the Copper Coast Visitor Information Centre or the Wallaroo Heritage and Nautical Museum and pick up a map.
The Local History Room, located in the Copper Coast Library Kadina, holds an extensive collection of material relating to the history of the Yorke Peninsula. People interested in genealogy research will find many tools available to assist with their research. Access is available free of charge during normal library hours. You will find a range of resources including: birth, death and marriage registers for the County of Daly, biographical indexes, reference materials, cemetery records and archives relating to the district. Volunteers from the Yorke Peninsula Family History Group are able to assist with history research and enquiries on Tuesdays from 10am to 12pm and Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm. Whilst entry to the room is free, a fees applies for this assistance.
The Moonta Tourist Office is located in the former Moonta Railway Station. Built in 1909 and set in spacious grounds, this beautiful old building is one of several built throughout the state of the same design, including the Wallaroo Railway Station. Open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm, you can access the latest information on attractions, accommodation, community services and special events in Moonta and the surrounding areas. Moonta's World War One German light Field Howitzer gun is also on display in the grounds of the Old Railway Station. Located within the station is a huge range of very affordable giftware and souvenirs. You will find this a wonderful place to purchase reminders of Moonta, or to buy gifts for birthdays, Christmas or any occasion. There is something for every taste and all budgets. Ample car, coach and caravan parking is available and public toilets (including disabled toilets) are on site. The Moonta Mines Walking Trails help you discover the history of this copper mining region via marked trails. Ryans Walk is a short walk of about 500 metres and takes about one hour. Hancocks Walk - from the miners cottage or sweet shop - is approximately 45 minutes return. Hughes Walk is a short loop around historic Hughes Engine House and takes about one hour. Interpretive signs illustrate the geology of Moonta ore bodies and the mining methods used to work them. A trail brochure is available from the Moonta Tourist Office and the Moonta Mines Museum. It's a fascinating part of South Australia's mining history, and well worth a look.
The Moonta Golf Club is an 18 hole, 5,401 metre Par 70 course with an Australian Course Rating of 68. Visitors are welcome. The course is closed on Tuesdays and Saturdays for competition from 1 April to 30 September. Moonta is a pretty coastal town that is steeped in history. Just 165 kilometres from Adelaide, it's popular with holidaymakers, especially families. Nearby, you'll find Moonta Bay - a delightful holiday spot with excellent accommodation and facilities. The course is closed mid October until late March until further notice.
Kadina Golf course is a par 72, 5851 metres and has an Australian course rating 69. Ladies golf day is on Tuesdays and the men's golf day is on Wednesday and Saturdays. Kadina Golf Club opened in 1904. In 1979 the old clubhouse was replaced with a large and modern building, which has had extensive renovations since. The course is opened from March to October.
The Moonta Gallery of the Arts is all about keeping the Arts alive and vibrant. The gallery has a different exhibition each month with most exhibitions having their own opening nights. The Wallaroo Jetty is one of the best fishing jetties in the state. Extending out for 869 metres into water that is up to 10 metres deep, the jetty is home to a wide variety of birdlife as well as many marine species. Amongst the types of fish anglers may catch are snapper, squid, flathead, tommy ruff, garfish, snook, salmon and mullet. SCUBA divers will enjoy swimming through the jetties pylons to observe the wide variety of marine life and there are facilities in the town to refill tanks and purchase accessories. A portion of the jetty has also been netted off to provide a swimming area, for use by children under the supervision of adults. An added attraction is the opportunity to see the large grain ships which visit the jetty from time to time, mainly during the summer months after the harvest.

Roy's gallery, The Art Spot, has over one hundred works on display and other paintings can be seen on display at another gallery in Wallaroo - Phil Roe's Gallery and Electrical Museum in Wildman Street, and at the Burra Art Gallery (Main Street, Burra). The Moonta Mines Tourist Railway is a 50 minute train ride through history. The narrow gauge rail train takes visitors past and through many of the sites which played an important role in Moonta's history as a major copper producing centre. Departing from the Station adjacent to the Moonta Mines Museum, passengers pass the reservoir and ore sorting floors, through a tunnel in Ryan's Tailings Heap to the former Precipitations Works for an inspection of the story of copper recovery, before beginning the return journey. Visitors can also see the restored horse drawn tram and old blacksmith shop (working blacksmith available for groups by appointment only). The 'Party Express' is available for children's parties. Multi ticket admission is available to the Moonta Mines Museum, Miners Cottage and Moonta Mines Tourist Railway. Wheelchair access is also available on request. Wallaroo Scuba Club is for recreational dives and was started by Mark Tozer in March 2010. The club consists of scuba diving enthusiasts who get together in the name of fun and diving. Purely a social crowd, the Wallaroo Scuba Club explore the local waters together and are trying to do their part to keep Wallaroo's reefs and other recreational dive spots preserved for future generations. Dives are generally held each Saturday (subject to weather) and are followed by a barbecue. Visitors are welcome to join in on the dives although should bring their own equipment. The Wallaroo Scuba Club divers are from all walks of life and levels of experience, from beginners to advanced, the only requirements are a sense of adventure, a passion for the water and a healthy respect for the environment.
The National Trust Miners Cottage and Garden gives an insight into the lives of the Cornish miners and their families who travelled from the other side of the world to work the great copper mines of Moonta and the surrounding areas. Built around 1870 and furnished in the pre-1900 style, the cottage is an example of a typical miner's family home. Built of wattle and daub, mud bricks, clay and limestone and given a coat of plaster and whitewashed, many of these cottages were once to be found throughout the mine residential area. Multi ticket admission is available to Moonta Mines Museum, Miners Cottage and Moonta Mines Tourist Railway.

The Local And Family History Resource Centre is located in Ellen Street, walking distance from the Moonta shopping precinct in the School of Mines. Here visitors will find a comprehensive collection of local and family history resource documents, including local and State newspapers on microfilm. There is also a large display of lifestyle memorabilia and changing exhibits, including 50 years of the National Trust South Australia Celebration. Local historians can also help you research family or local history.
The Northern Yorke Peninsula (NYP) Art Group meets at their Art Room at the back of the Uniting Church on Robert Street, at Queen Square in Moonta. The members of the group paint in different mediums, such as oils, water colour, acrylics and pastel. The NYP Art Group calls their galley, the Queen Square Art Gallery, which is open on Tuesdays from 10am to 2pm, and some long weekends. The Gallery is closed during December and January. Come and see local artists at work in Moonta!
The classic Cornish Hughes Enginehouse was constructed in 1865. It was named after Walter Watson Hughes, the founder of the Moonta Mining Company. The building housed a 60 inch (1.52 metre) Cornish beam pumping engine, which operated pumps in Hughes and Taylor's Shafts to allow the mining of the main ore body below natural water levels. The engine worked continuously, except for maintenance for more than 58 years until closure of the mine in 1923. A walking trail provides access to Hughes Enginehouse and environs, and signs interpret the remaining structures.

The Kernewek Lowender Art Prize Collection is a collection of art works purchased from 1977 during the Kernewek Lowender- Copper Coast Cornish Festival Art Prize. The collection comprises some early pieces of work from some now well known artists. The collection is based on the judge's selections from each year with the works representing the variety and diversity of the judges. The Collection is on permanent display except when the Cornish Festival is celebrated in May biennially. During this time the submitted Art Work for the current festivals Art Prize is displayed for judging. The official opening is the Art Prize Soiree, which is held on the Monday of the Kernewek Lowender. Housed in the historic Ascot Theatre you you will enjoy the collection and other elements of this community space.
