The Tongarra Bicentennial Museum was opened in 1988. The Museum collection includes artefacts significant to the history of Shellharbour, and those that tell stories about the people and places of past and present. It features pioneering and historical exhibits such as the Victorian Automatic Sock Knitting Machine and Handmade Patchwork Quilt; a large collection of early maps and panoramic photographs of the Shellharbour Local Government Area and a bronze bust of Caroline Chisholm, who is known as 'The Immigrants' Friend', who helped to settle families in Shellharbour in the 1840s.

Macquarie Pass National Park is part of the Illawarra escarpment south of Sydney and provides some magnificent scenery and displays untouched rainforest, covering 1,064 hectares. Visitors can view nature at its best, beautiful satin bowerbirds and lyre birds as well as swamp wallabies and wombats. It contains a diverse range of habitats and wildlife including several rare and threatened plant and animal species. The steep sandstone ridges and gullies are topped by cliffs, and the park supports heathland, woodland, tall open forest and significant rainforest areas. It is an excellent bushwalking and picnicking area, with spectacular scenery and waterfalls. Starting at the base of Macquarie Pass at the picnic area, you can walk to the Cascades Waterfall (two kilometres return).

Shows by local artists and craftspeople are open on weekends, so that passengers and visitors can enjoy the excellent art displays on offer. The Gallery is open during displays on weekends and is located at the end of Yarranga Street Robertson.

Missingham lookout walking track leads along the western edge of the escarpment and shows off Kangaroo Valley in all its glory, as well as a wide angle view of the spectacular Carrington Falls Gorge. Passing gums and banksia, you might catch the scent of sydney peppermint gum and the finger hakea with its delightful perfume in spring. You might hear the call of the wonga pigeon or eastern whipbird as you meander this easy trail, leading to one of the best views on the south coast. Take a moment to scour the skies for the vibrant king parrot and yellow tailed black cockatoo, or simply soak in the sounds of the valley below. Prepare yourself for a journey back in time as you enjoy a leisurely stroll along on this easy walking track. Stroll along the wheelchair-friendly walking track and surround yourself with the dense rainforest that once covered the landscape around Robertson. Looking up at the sheer density of the vines, you can see why the Yarrawa Brush, as it it’s known, was so difficult to penetrate for early explorers. If you’re keen on birdwatching, keep your binoculars handy and you might just spot Lewin's honeyeaters, white-browed scrub hens, crimson rosellas, wonga pigeons or satin bowerbirds. You’re sure to at least hear the distinctive whip crack call of the eastern whipbird. Look out for wombat burrows, and if you look really closely, you might even notice the delicate rainforest snails and other invertebrates picking their way through the ferns and mosses....
