The Cockatoo Run commences its journey in Sydney and travels along the spectacular Illawarra route to Wollongong. The line climbs 600 metres through rainforests, past waterfalls and the spectacular viaduct. The train makes a stop at Summit Tank to admire the view over Lake Illawarra out to the Tasman Sea.

The historic Southern Highland township of Robertson 'Green Heart of the Southern Highlands' with its old town atmosphere and rustic appeal is generally a great tourist stopover in which to spend some time. You have the choice of detraining here or alternatively continuing onto Moss Vale.

Cordeaux Dam was completed in 1926 and was the second of the Upper Nepean dams. It is 57 metres high, holds water from a 91 square kilometre catchment, and forms a lake of 780 hectares with a capacity of 93,640 megalitres. Take a look at the valve house and pylons, built in a Neo-Egyptian style. The dams of the Upper Nepean collect water from the catchments of the Cataract, Cordeaux, Avon and Nepean rivers, which are tributaries of the Upper Hawkesbury-Nepean River. These systems supply water to the Macarthur and Illawarra regions, the Wollondilly Shire, and metropolitan Sydney. Facilities include picnic shelters, electric barbecues, drinking water, toilets, disabled toilets, playground and viewing areas. Bookings are required for groups of 50 or more.

Belmore Basin's Lighthouse the Breakwater Lighthouse is located on Wollongong breakwater was commissioned 1872. The height of tower is 42 feet (12.8 metres). This now disused lighthouse was initially powered by vegetable oils and in the 1910s by gas. It was a prefabricated structure. A larger, improved lighthouse on the headland replaced it in the 1930s. There is no access inside the lighthouse.
