The entrance to Strickland State Forest is at the top of Mangrove Road, Somersby. For a small day-use forest (293 square kilometres), Strickland contains an impressive diversity of flora and fauna: wildflowers, heath woodland, tall eucalypts and lush rainforest. Strickland was the site of the first government forest nursery (1886 - 1890) and national forestry training school (1920 - 1927). Remnants of native and exotic tree plantings established during those times, known as an arboretum, are among the oldest in Australia. Picnic facilities are set in dry eucalypt forest and include picnic tables, a large all-weather shelter, fireplaces and toilets. Extensive and well-built walking trails feature cabbage tree palms, rainforest vegetation and meander through the arboretum. Strickland State Forest offers a tranquil and unique Australian forest experience.

The Central Coast Interactive War Exhibit (CCIWE) is a permanent exhibit and is a truly unique experience suitable for all age groups. Andrew Church, local resident and military historian, has personally collected over 1000 artefacts from WWI, WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Afghanistan, and Iraq and it is the largest private collection in NSW. The lifelike scenarios that surround the exhibit, complete with sound effects from the frontline and special lighting effects, give a sometimes chilling insight into what the frontline would have been like. There are over 1000 artefacts displayed including scenes from Gallipoli, a WWII trench, a communications display, medic post, Australian Light Horse (featuring a complete uniform and saddle), dioramas, and much more. Included in the exhibit is a photo booth - half a Willy's jeep permanently mounted to the wall - (with dress ups for the kids), plus an interactive learning centre.

Six String Brewing Company is the Central Coast's first 100 per cent homegrown microbrewery, producing a range of quality handcrafted ales including Hefeweizen, Golden Ale, Pale Ale, ESB, and Red IPA in addition to limited seasonal releases. A popular surf beach lined with towering Norfolk Island Pines, Avoca Beach has a relaxed atmosphere which is sought after by locals and visitors alike. The beach area, which stretches almost two kilometres, incorporates both Avoca Beach and North Avoca Beach and is renowned as a fisherman's paradise. A large rock platform at the southern end of the beach invites exploration and a protected rock pool provides a playground for young children. Aquafun leisure boat hire provides opportunities for the hire of aquabikes, pedalcats, kayaks and surf skis. Undercover barbecues and tables, grassed picnic areas, a children's playground, casual cafes, fine dining restaurants and the historic Avoca Beach Theatre are just some of the other attractions available at Avoca Beach. The beach is patrolled every day from October long weekend until the end of the April school holiday break. There is a public beachside car park and on street parking.

Neale Joseph is an established contemporary Australian artist whose work echoes the beauty of the Australian landscape. He uses traditional mediums of oil and acrylic materials to capture the richness and diversity of Australian scenery. Neale's first solo exhibition was in 1990 on the Central Coast. He has since been awarded both the internationally recognised 'Veuve Clicquot' and 'Great South Land' art prizes and has exhibited regularly in solo and group exhibitions throughout Australia. His work has achieved acclaim from some of the most influential international and Australian icons such as Arthur Boyd, former United States President George Bush Senior and former Australia Prime Minister John Howard. Large corporations such as IBM, Sara Lee, Dairy Farmers, Telstra and Commonwealth Bank of Australia are also collectors of his work. While Neale is humbled on the international and national recognition he has received, his roots are firmly planted on the Central Coast.

Located just a five minute drive south-east of The Entrance, Toowoon Bay is one of the Central Coast's best kept secrets. It offers a picturesque horseshoe shaped protected beach that is great for families, but bathers should be careful of currents near the rocks at the southern end.
